I'll Stay at the Naniloa Again

1st stay Aug 2010; 2nd stay May 2013. Yes the hotel is old, built in the mid 60's, but a decent job has been done to make the property presentable. Renovated rooms are very nice, I was actually impressed. Staff are friendly. Week before the stay, there was a TV news report that was very negative, including negative comments by the Hawaii County Mayor. Thought about cancelling my reservations. Thank God I didn't because I enjoyed my stay. If you need a place to sleep I'd recommend the Naniloa. The only amenities are a swimming pool and a free continental breakfast. And of course the beautiful parks and ocean front.

Hilo Business

Redone/ renovated rooms are nice. Location is great. Still needs a lot of work on external areas and boy are those tiled hallways noisy.

Great Location, Bad hotel

Location is giood. Hotel appears to have been badly run down and they are trying to fix it up. Rooms are nothing special. One desk type chair. Found hotel personel very unfriendly. I would not stay there again. I would look to one nearby. Hotel has great potential. With a new staff who atleast acted glad you were there it could be friendly. Interior needs work. Decorative chain fence and post around water inlets in gardens were rusted off and falling into the inlets. Pool had dirt laying in the bottom and wasn't cleaned or used in the 3 1/2 days we were there. Complementary breakfast was vary limited, they offered fried eggs or lomlets but they were $10.00 per person more

No stress get away

Extremely friendly staff even when they had to clean up the wine we spilled on the carpet. Very aloha place especially the lanai and the view full of rainbows. Lots of hot water, big fluffy towels and clean, clean sheets. Great location, close to many good restaurants, Hilo farmers market and the volcano. We found a secret jungle trail that led to ocean. It was all so very wonderful, peaceful and relaxing.

Lovely location

In alll fairness, the hotel is definitely in transition... Needs upgrading in several area... However, my room in one of the renovated floors, was quite wonderful: clean, bright, very comfortable and lovely view. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay, and staff wer most helpful and friendly.

Ocean view makes up for lack of amenities

Great location and gorgeous view (get ocean facing room, definitely best part of hotel). The elevators are old, the hallways are plain, but the room has been redone nicely - bathroom is clean and updated, bed is comfy and the view is to die for. Not filled with amenities, but if you're in Hilo for just one night, it's a good deal.

Good Value

Like other reviewer mentioned, this is a 2 star hotel, so don't expect luxury amenities. Agreed with what most other reviewer's comments. Though we got a fairly newly renovated room with a modern touch, but the building is old and need work, it's still pretty good consider the age of the town. However, the staff is very friendly and helpful. Got a water front room with view of Hilo Bay, able to watch sun rise and cruise ship from window, what a nice surprise! Enjoyed the hotel location very much: water front; sounds of nature (ocean waves, tropical birds, and Coqui frogs), next to oriental themed park with huge ancient trees! Can't beat the value! Would definitely stay again!
