wasnt what i was expecting...

The hotel needs a lot of t.l.c. to come even close to "pleasant". With the corner ocean view, I was expecting a little "better", in fact my mother in law had an ocean view and hers was better than ours. Furniture very old looking..no doors on closet.. no lock on bathroom door...sliding door on balcony didnt lock {stuck with paint} no mirror in room only bathroom. Air conditioner vent directly above my face in bedroom, fell down middle of night, {screws came out}..no available amenities of any description in room except coffee, none available downstairs. Pool needs repair.

Great Hilo Mini Getaway

The Naniloa Resort was in an ideal location and the ocean front view was spectacular. The resort is undergoing renovations but it was not an inconvenience. The staff was wonderful - and a special thank you to Mim for making our stay very enjoyable. We'll be back.

Average

Better than other hotels I've been to in Hilo. Bathroom was recently renovated, but the rest of the hotel needs some work.

Not quite back

This hotel must have been great at one time, but had fallen into disrepair, and the renovations have not brought it back yet. There was lots of unused space, no bar, no restaurant, no breakfast. Just a couple of vending machines. The elevator was scuffed up, and badly needed painting. We were given an adjoining room (in a mostly empty hotel), and we could clearly hear our neighbors' conversations. The only good thing was that the room was actually very clean.

Hilo escape

Great location close to the water. Not close to that many restaurants. Hotel is a little dated but going through renovations. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

Steal for the price

The lobby is outdated but don't let that fool you! The rooms are great with a wonderful view! And for the price, it was a steal!

Not so bad

Only stayed 1 night after a later flight. Staff was very friendly, although my online booking hadn't been transferred into their system and the room that I had booked was not available. Did their best to make it right and refunded difference in room costs happily. Wi-Fi only available in lobby. Most of the hotel is under renovation, so most of the property is dark. Room was pretty clean. Furniture was spare and modern, looked a bit like a dorm room, but the beds were comfortable and the air conditioning worked. I wouldn't want to stay for a week, but it's hardly the worst place I've spent a night.

Hilo Experience

I was a little taken aback by the exterior of the hotel. It is a little run down. It is an older hotel that did have days of grandor years ago. Nice little rooms though. NO WIFI. Staff is helpful. Great location and easy to get to and from. I did find out this is not a very touristy area. I did not realize how far it was from a lot of attractions. But it is perfect for just a trip to the volcano.

A port in the storm

I was stranded with a car breakdown 30 miles from my Hawaii Island home. Naniloa was perfect... Liked the staff better than Uncle Billy's, where I stayed the first night. I love the wood-paneled window treatments Hot water was slow in coming to my first room on 8th floor....2-3 hours to get warm water to bathe. Moved to 6th floor and had great hot water. No phones in room gave pause, but I adapted, and appreciated the quiet!

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Coconut Grill on the "Ice Pond" has a good menu and a salad bar which is RARE in Hilo! Vernas is open late and has great burgers, breakfast, and plate lunches
