New hotel with classy, modern suites in the downtown historic district
Recently opened in 2009, the SpringHill Suites by Marriott hotel sits on the west side of the historic district in downtown Savannah, just steps from the Savannah Civic Center. Visitors can walk from the hotel to many of the attractions in downtown Savannah. All the rooms at this new property are one-bedroom suites--50 percent larger than average hotel rooms--decorated in a modern style with oversize glass showers and flat-screen TVs. Guests can use computers in the business center or go online in their rooms with free Wi-Fi access.

No sleep for the tired
Not worth the money!
We were placed in a room which had large flags right outside the window. In the evening the wind started to blow and the flags clanged and made a great racket as they were on metal chains. At 11:30 in the evening we had to change rooms. The receptionist told us she has heard complaints about the noise before. One would think they would remove the problem. Definitely would not stay there again.

Great place to start and finish your day
We were warmly greeted by the parking attendants and everyone else as well. The room was nice sized, clean and up to date. A variety of foods were offered for breakfast which should please most folks. We were close enough to walk everywhere we wanted to go. Bed was very comfortable and minimal noise for being downtown.

Spacious room, nice/clean
Our room was spacious, had a desk and sitting area too. Bathroom was clean and new. Everything works. Location of the hotel is very convenient. Close to restaurants and shopping. Staff were friendly. The only thing we were not too happy about was, we asked for a non-smoking room. But the room smelled like cigarettes.

Overall a good experience
This is a sleek, modern-looking hotel in a convenient location. A few comments: (1) This booking site asks whether you want a smoking or non-smoking room, but be warned -- the hotel is entirely non-smoking. (2) The TV is awkwardly positioned within the room, askew from the beds. (3) The water closet (toilet) is separate from the shower, and in both rooms, the door is a sliding door without a lock, and with very little privacy. (4) There was an irregular but incessant clicking noise that came from inside the bathroom ceiling (I don't know what caused it). (5) The light between the beds (which is the only light in the main part of the room) made a VERY loud steady hum, which was annoying. On the whole, the hotel was clean and comfortable, though the above issues need to be addressed.

Very nice
Would most likely stay at this property again with one hesitation. This property did not offer shuttle service. It would have been to notch if there would have been this service at a minimum to and from the River Street area. That was the only drawback. Otherwise, the stay was perfect.
