Riverfront hotel in Savannah’s historic district

Originally a storehouse for cotton during the 1800s--when Savannah's waterfront boasted a bustling cotton exchange--River Street Inn sits on a bluff overlooking the Savannah River. The inn comprises five floors wrapped around a central atrium. Throughout the property, antique furniture and period décor create an old-world ambiance with modern conveniences. The inn's central location at the north end of Savannah's historic district puts guests within easy walking distance to the bars and restaurants of River and Broughton Streets.

Highlights
  • Great location overlooking River Street and the Savannah River
  • Trolley tours of Savannah's historic district stop outside the hotel
  • Walking distance to many downtown bars, restaurants and attractions
Rooms

Southern ambiance permeates the inn's décor with antique and antebellum-style furnishings. Each room has its own personality, from hardwood floors and four-poster beds to plush carpeting and wrought-iron headboards. All 86 rooms overlook the Savannah River or downtown Savannah. Watch large ocean freighters ply the busy port river from French-style balconies found in some rooms.

Features

Built in 1817 out of ballast stones left by visiting ships, the first two floors of the inn make up a section of Factor's Walk--a network of narrow streets, alleys and bridges that supported one of the South's busiest cotton ports. Numerous restaurants, bars, shops and tour options surround the hotel. Visit Huey's Southern Café for low country favorites like shrimp, oysters and fried green tomatoes. Guests can buy tickets for trolley tours of the city or river cruises from the front desk. A complimentary evening guest reception with wine and hors d'oeuvres is held Monday to Saturday. A fitness center with professional-grade cardio equipment is located onsite.

Girls weekend out...

We had a lovely time. The room was really cute. It reminds me of England. Everything you needed was not to far from the hotel. I would recommend anyone to stay there and I would also stay there again on my next trip. Thank you, Cheryl

Loved It!!

My husband and I booked this inn to celebrate a few days for our 10 Year Wedding Anniversary. The inn is beautiful, and in a perfect location right on the river, in the Historic District. The room was clean and lovely. We enjoyed the wine and cheese each night of our stay (they also have beer for those to oppose wine). The trolley picks up right in front of the hotel, so we were able to hop on and off all 3 days. The staff at this inn was very friendly and professional and check in and check out was a breeze. We also took a dinner cruise one night, which is a very short walk from the inn. We have already recommended this inn to our friends and family, and would also recommend it to anyone else looking to stay in Savannah.

The trolley vendor on the boardwalk also sells dinner cruise tickets, and he'll give you a combined price. Be prepared to pull up the website on your smart phone.

Great hotel for Savannh visitors to this wonderful town

A perfectly situated hotel in downtown Savannah overlooking the busy Savannah River. Wonderful service and amenities. Book a river view room -- a little extra in cost but well worth it. You can marvel at those huge container ships heading out to the ocean. Breakfast is great downstairs at Huey's Restaurant with fantastic seafood omelets. Be sure to try the Cajun gumbo.

Eh, it was nice but...

The location on the main strip was excellent. We were on the top floor so noise from the party goers was not an issue. Great historic building but the room was a bit worn out and mildew smelling. The house keeping department did a good job on their daily services, but the carpet and furniture upholstery were soiled and either need a major steam cleaning or replacement. Other than that and the horrible parking options, it was very nice.

Dining tip: Short drive from hotel

Dinning that was walking distance (lots of choices) was pricey and very low grade, except for Belfords. They were very good but expensive. We recommend Crab Shack on Tybee. Great, tucked away family place on the water. Exactly what you expect and want along the coast.

River Inn

My fiancé loved the building and the close access to the River front. The very limited staff were very nice and helpful. The room was very damp and we would have rather have just had one bed with extra room, than two beds with almost no room. Made us feel Claustrophobic, but it was just an overnight stay, so we made due and stayed out enjoying the river front. Make sure to ask for a balcony, as that is the only way to get fresh air. Our windows were sealed. I would recommend Vic's restaurant which is one building over. Amazing food.

Great stay.

Perfectly located hotel with a room overlooking the Savannah River with its huge container ships passing by. Great hotel in an historic building and with a great restaurant, Huey's, on the bottom floor. Wonderful service. Set on the Savannah riverfront, just another treat for the trip.

nice location, beautiful, but musty smell

room and hotel and building is beautiful, and location could not be better. however, the room was stuff and smelled like mildew when the AC was on..and since the window did not open, we were stuck.... still with cheap price i might do again if i could ensure the mildew was gone.

Easy location

My sister and I stayed at the River Street Inn for 4 nights. The hotel was perfect for our stay. Clean, comfortable and great location. Only comment would be that our room was on the Bay Street side at street level. It was rather dark. River side would be nicer, and yes I presume visitors pay a premium for them.
