Riverfront hotel in Savannah’s historic district

Originally a storehouse for cotton during the 1800s--when Savannah's waterfront boasted a bustling cotton exchange--River Street Inn sits on a bluff overlooking the Savannah River. The inn comprises five floors wrapped around a central atrium. Throughout the property, antique furniture and period décor create an old-world ambiance with modern conveniences. The inn's central location at the north end of Savannah's historic district puts guests within easy walking distance to the bars and restaurants of River and Broughton Streets.

Highlights
  • Great location overlooking River Street and the Savannah River
  • Trolley tours of Savannah's historic district stop outside the hotel
  • Walking distance to many downtown bars, restaurants and attractions
Rooms

Southern ambiance permeates the inn's décor with antique and antebellum-style furnishings. Each room has its own personality, from hardwood floors and four-poster beds to plush carpeting and wrought-iron headboards. All 86 rooms overlook the Savannah River or downtown Savannah. Watch large ocean freighters ply the busy port river from French-style balconies found in some rooms.

Features

Built in 1817 out of ballast stones left by visiting ships, the first two floors of the inn make up a section of Factor's Walk--a network of narrow streets, alleys and bridges that supported one of the South's busiest cotton ports. Numerous restaurants, bars, shops and tour options surround the hotel. Visit Huey's Southern Café for low country favorites like shrimp, oysters and fried green tomatoes. Guests can buy tickets for trolley tours of the city or river cruises from the front desk. A complimentary evening guest reception with wine and hors d'oeuvres is held Monday to Saturday. A fitness center with professional-grade cardio equipment is located onsite.

Great anniversary getaway

River st inn was a great hotel. The staff was very nice and helpful. Our room was ready when we arrived and we were able to park right our front until we were unpacked and ready to move our car to the garage. The room was ordinary but pretty. We really enjoyed the view from our room and the history behind the hotel and the river st area. Location was fantastic!! We were steps away from great food, shopping, and entertainment. Would definitely recommend hotel and look forward to staying here again!

Great Stay

We were there on St Patricks Day which is one of Savannah's busiest. Great view of the river and perfect location for eating out later. Historic inn that has been kept up very nicely. We would return definitely.

Great Place To Stay In Savannah

Great value for an Inn with a lot of character. Perfect location by river with conveniant nearby off street parking. Staff was great, everything worked fine and we were very comfortable. Would not hesitate to come back.

Great hotel, awful customer service

The hotel was beautiful and had the perfect location. However, the front desk staff was rude and not welcoming. They could not initially find our reservation, which would not have been a problem, except the fact that when they did, they made us wait in line a second time around. Also, they were not up-front about the parking situation and simply told us that the bellboy would explain it to us so they could avoid the sticky situation. Apparently there are only parking spots for half of rooms at the hotel and they are obtained on a "first come, first serve" basis. We checked right at 4, which was the earliest possible, but did not receive a parking spot. We had to park in a city garage and pay $11.00. The staff could have helped ease the situation by explaining it with great customer service and being positively honest. Instead, they avoided the topic and passed it off to someone else to explain. We never found the bellboy because he was helping others, so we had to stand in line a third time to ask where we needed to park. The answer was rude and condescending as they told us to park in the city lot. Also, they failed to mention the cocktail hour to us. When we went to check out, we stood at the front desk in front of an employee, who proceeded to ignore us for a few minutes and call another customer up from a seat in the lobby. Instead of saying "Please wait for a second, I am helping another guest" she simple ignored us. That is unacceptable. When she did finally give us her attention, she was very rude and brash. I do not understand what we did to receive such service, but we were appalled.

President Day weekend getaway

Our room on the top floor with city view was clean, comfortable and quiet but lacked the more charming river view. Others on the lower floors complained that their rooms were noisy. Great location. Staff was friendly and helpful.
