Hmm...
Now I see why they did not have pictures of the bathrooms. For the price, I thought the room would have been a little more upscale. The room was clean, but just not what I expected. If I had a to do it all over again, I would stay somewhere else.

Fancy hotel with a lackluster housekeeping crew
Really nice hotel, with pleasant, modern styling. Excellent (but expensive) room service. Front desk staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The only problem I found with this hotel was that the housekeeping was alternately non-existent or very slow. On two separate days, I left my room around 8, returned at 3, and no one had been there to tidy up and replace towels. Not that it's a tragedy, but I think the housekeeping is part of what I pay for at a nice hotel. I love coming back to a clean room, don't you? I called once to have someone come by, and it took over two hours for anyone to show up. Lame. But the rest was great. There is a bar serving Starbucks beverages in the lobby -- extremely convenient. There are always cabs outside ready to whisk you away. And when you arrive or leave the lobby, you're always greeted warmly by the staff. It's very nice. The room service again, is pretty good food (4 out of 5 stars) in my opinion, but a little too expensive. $32 for a dinner of cod, rice, and veggies. That does not include drinks. Eh, I'll chalk it up to a splurge. Overall, I am satisfied.

Short walk from hotel
This hotel is a short walk to the Georgia Tech Conference Center, and I think it's much nicer. Watch for sales, though, since this one is typically a bit more pricey. =)

My Melia Experience
The staff was very nice, helpful, and personable. We booked through a travel website- we weren't aware that we would be required to pay an additional $28 per day for valet parking. Although our reservations were for a deluxe room with double beds, we had to prove this with our email confirmation to avoid an additional $20 per day upcharge. The pillows on our bed were not clean - they actually had an unpleasant odor. We only ate breakfast 1 of 3 days at the hotel. Although our reservation was for 3 people, we were only given 2 free breakfasts per day. We had to speak with the restaurant manager to have this waived. The staff always aimed to please and were quick to correct issues - that is what helped our experience. The location was central to everything we planned to do, so that was convenient as well.

Perfect location for walking to attractions.
The best thing going for this hotel is their location, about a 10 to15 minute walk to the Coca-Cola Museum and the Georgia Aquarium. Be sure to keep your car at the $15 garage (next door) instead of paying the $28 per day valet parking. You can also easily walk about 20 minutes to the area near Ponce de Leon at Piedmont Streets where you will find Mary Mac's Tea Room (must-go) and Papi's Cuban Restaurant. Get a room as high up the building as you can to avoid traffic noise. Easily accessible from the Interstate. View of downtown Atlanta (south side of building) is amazing! This property has been recently acquired and it does have that tired look to it. Our room was on the 15th floor with a King but it had no flat screen, microwave or frig. The balcony is only big enough for two or three to stand. Melia has big plans for the place and I look forward to coming back after reconstruction. Housekeeping was just OK. Not sure if they vacuumed or mopped while we were there. I definitely could see that the hallways (edges in particular) have not been vacuumed in a VERY long time. Breakfast was fine with standard fare. Coffee was very good and they serve Starbucks at the lobby bar. This place feels a little sketchy at night. We checked out at 4 in the morning and upon leaving our elevator, we were asked by a young man to hold his elevator door for a reason that made no sense. We declined. You should know you need a room key to operate the elevator from 9pm to 6am, so that may tell you something. I never felt unsafe in the area, but this is not a neighborhood to take a romantic midnight stroll like you might if you were staying in a resort. The staff at the Melia were all wonderful, genuine and friendly. When we had trouble trying to phone housekeeping for extra washcloths and room service for some dessert, the manager was very apologetic and comped the dessert. We never dined there, as the prices were quite high and there are so many other options.
