Howard Johnson Plaza Tampa-Downtown

Booking this hotel through a fare combined offer was not a wise move.After flight delays we arrived late at night too tired to take much notice of our allocated room which was stale and musty smelling. The following morning on complaining to front desk the Howard Johnston staff with out any hesitation issued a new upgraded room for us for the rest of our stay. We have nothing but praise for the professionalism of these Howard Johnston staff. We would recommend this hotel for your stay. M M-C New Zealand

Staff were extremely helpful and courteous. Room was comfortable with great view. Excellent location. Rather expensive, but excellent stay.

Property is neat and clean, I noticed the staff every morning sweeping and cleaning the parking lot up. The hotel is a older building and the rooms are average in size. It appears they are updating the hotel and my room had not been updated. Housekeeping could do a better job, one day cleaned up room and did not refresh coffee service, next day only change towels out and at 10:30 pm the towels were still in the hallway. They do provide a shuttle within 2 miles of hotel, so Convention Center, Port and riverwalk are all within the radius and it runs until 11 pm. The hotel is a dorm for a local college, I did not have much interaction with the kids so it was not a issue to me. Overall, need a room it was not bad and about what I expected from a HoJo's. I only had breakfast at the on site restaurant, so cannot really comment there. Once they finish the update, it may go up in rating but I would stay there again.

It was fine for the money . I WAS SURPRISED I HAD TO PAY FOR PARKING IN THERE LOT THATS A RIP OFF

I was disappointed to find out when I got there, that they have a separate, extra parking fee not included in your on-line payment. SURPRISE! What's that, an extra 10% they pick up that way?

When I stayed here it was a good time, the shuttle was very helpful and the location was perfect. Easy walk to UT.

Our room smelled like mildew. We found long dark hairs in our bed and in the bathroom and blood spots on the sheets. It was gross and way overpriced.

My son and I stayed at this hotel while he was visiting the U of Tampa. The location is great. Easy walk to downtown and U of Tampa. Short ride to airport, however that hotel does not provide shuttle service to or from the airport. The bed was extremely comfortable and room was generally clean. The staff was helpful and pleasant. 5 floors were rented by U of Tampa as student housing, however other than passing students in the lobby it was hardly noticable tha they were there. The property is tired and needs upgrades. The restaurant/bar has really good food, but the decor and atmosphere leaves a lot to be desired. The tables were not cleaned after previous diners left. Our table had syrup from breakfast still on the table @ 8:30 at night! We had the same waitress two nights and she was terrific. However, other waitstaff was inattentive to customers. They were constantly texting on their phones, eating in the dining room, and horsing around with each other. At several points all three of the staff left the room for an extended period leaving no coverage behind the bar or on the floor.

It is an average hotel with great accessibility to the University of Tampa.
