UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT

I used to love this hotel, but my love is slowly dwindling away. Last two times the rooms have been dirty upon arrival. Furniture old and outdated. After my last stay at the Helmsley, I left this hotel in disgust. Yes, the new owners are in the process of making changes, but the changes they are making are cheap to make it appear classy. Far from reality if you ask me. And with the added $25/day resort fees that they've added do not make it affordable anymore. There are better hotels out there for less which offer more. The only thing worth your stay at this hotel is location. It's set on a beautiful beach. That's about it.

Sunsets and sand

Great location, walk out your door right on to a beautiful sandy beach, dolphins frolic and birds cruise by in front of you. Family friendly, attentive staff make this hotel a place you wll return to. Been there 5 years in a row. It is not new or glitzy, not hip or trendy, but it is a nice hotel on a fantastic beach, walking distance to St Armand's Circle and an easy drive to grocery stores, restaurants and movie theatre.

An Amazing Getaway

My family and I did a mini-staycation and escaped the hustle-and-bustle of Tampa to come to quaint Sarasota! The location was perfect, the staff got us a room on the courtyard corner, so we managed to get an ocean view. It was very relaxing, and the accommodations were comfortable and clean. The beach acceess was probably the best part, it was so convenient and beautiful. The food and wait staff was also superb, we ate breakfast and lunch at the hotel.

Better than expected

I am a FL resident but too my friend from out of town and stayed at this resort for a girls weekend. We really enjoyed every second. Room was a little out dated but you could tell it was clean. Staff was very helpful and really nice! Enjoyed having drinks on the beach, good food, music and some many fun things to do there. Can't wait to take my kids and husband back VERY soon.

Okay, but could use improvement!!!

Overall our stay was average. We didn't enjoy the view of the parking garage and it was very noisey. They were remodeling so we would hear drills and hammers banging or something every morning waking us up. The showers were really small and the curtain was hung too close so we always bumped into it while showering. They charge a rediculous $25 a day resort fee. You have to pay to do your laundry and buy your own soap, but the laundry is part of the reaort fee...? There are few washers and driers and they are always taken. There are no gas stations or grocery stores on the key and the gift shop at the resort cloaes at 6 pm. If you need tylenol or batteries....too bad unless you wanna drive 10 minutes. The rooms were decently clean and the staff was nice, but the hotel was outdated. The coat of the hotel isn't bad if your looking for a cheaper option, but it isn't worth paying the resort fee. $25 a day is too much for the few amenities (most of which they stil charge a fee to use) that they offer. The beach was nice, but lots of cigarette buds...yuck! Apparently the hotel was recently sold to a new owner. A lot of people were upset about this change. There were a few gentlemen staying in the room next door who were cloae with the owner somehow. They were complaining about how he never should have bought it and that it was a dump.

perfect location

Rooms not modern, carpet soiled BUT the location & beach are heaven . You have umbrellas , beach chairs & loungers always available on the beach for the guests of the hotel. AND the beach is steps from all the rooms That is why the prices for the rooms is a bargain .

Great Place!

We stayed at the Sandcastle about 10 years ago when it was owned by the Helmsley's, We found it comfortable with standard amenities and the location to be fantastic. The Beach was right out our door and a beautiful place to walk, enjoy the sea breeze and swim. This time we went, the place had been purchased by the Signature group and they just started to update the Sandcastle. Once again it was comfortable with standard amenities and the location as always totally fantastic. We spent many hours walking the beach and enjoying the water and sun. They have paddle boarding and kayaking too. There are some great little shops down in the town circle with a lot of nice eateries. I would recommend it to anyone who loves to stay right on the beach. The Ritz-Carlton is next door but the Sandcastle's beach is better. If you are wanting to save money and do not care about luxury suites the Sandcastle is the perfect place.
