Call for your own taxi.
We had the front desk call for a taxi three times, and each time the service they called was significantly more than when we called a Yellow Cab for the way back ($45 vs $37 to Disney World, $45 vs $43 to the Airport, $10 vs $6 to Universal Studios). Also we shouldn't have even needed to have taken a taxi to and from Universal Studios but their shuttle was full on the way there, so they wouldn't issue us a pass for the way back either. So we had to pay for our own transportation both ways, which was kind of stupid, because we would have taken the earliest shuttle home, which likely would have had plenty of room.

Entertainment tip:
Short walk from hotel
There's a putt-putt golf course within walking distance (on your way to Walgreens) where you can feed baby alligators for $4. For this amount, they give you a cheap fishing pole with a clip on the end and about a half a cut up hot dog, but we broke the pieces into smaller pieces, and my daughter had about a half an hour of wonderful entertainment!

we enjoyed this hotel
My husband had a class reunion in the area so my girlfriend and I went along. The traffic is terrible along International Drive. We soon learned you can exit out the back onto another major street that runs parallel to International. We almost never found this hotel even with a gps. It sits back from the road and you have to turn down a little street area to get to it. We went up and down International the first night for about 15 minutes, with the gps saying turn around, turn around, turn around. You realize you have just missed it many times. The food I thought was food at breakfast. The generally had waffles, eggs and some sort of meat. They had a pot of grits and oatmeal. It was really quite adequate. The dinners were a little more attuned to kids with stuff like chicken nuggets. Even though a few nights I didn't care for their entrees, they always had soup and salad so you could have that and then go out to a restaurant and have something light or an appetizer and feel like you ate a meal. My girlfriend wanted and ordered a smoking room which was not provided her. She was near a door and could go outside to smoke but that's not always safe alone and at night. And not really like being able to smoke in your own hotel room.

Univeral studio getaway
I chose this hotel because it offered one bedroom suites. The room was small but we only stayed one night and it was not an inconvinience. My 14 and 16 year old daughters sleeped in the livingroom sleeper sofa and it was small for them. It had a full kitchen with large refrigerator, micro and stove, perfect if your going to spend a few days and want to eat in. Universal studios-Island of Adventure and City Walk are 5 minutes away. I would go again but would get a two bedroom suite.

Excellent hotel, convenient to Universal
Great hotel, close to Universal. Not exactly walking distance in 100 degree weather (1 mile), but convenient none the less. We rented a car so did not use their shuttle, but it exists. It goes TO Universal three times in the AM and returns three times in the evening, the last shuttle leaving Universal at 8:50. Since the park closed at 9 while we were there, that wouldn't have been ideal timing for us since we ate dinner at City Walk after park closing more than once. The rooms are spacious, very clean, quiet and well-appointed. Our room had two queen beds plus a separate living/kitchen area. The living room had a pull out couch. Both had a large, flat panel TV. There is a two burner cooktop, full sized fridge, microwave and coffee pot. Dishes, pots and pans were included. There was not a pitcher for water, nor ice cube trays, but we got by :) Each floor has a laundry (we didn't use it so I am not sure about costs). There is a work out room, arcade room, plus an area with two computers and a printer--great for boarding passes. Free wi-fi is in all of the rooms and lobby. The included breakfast offered eggs--plain scrambled and with either vegies, cheese or meat depending upon the day, sausage or bacon, cereal, breads, muffins, yougurt, fruit, juice and coffee plus waffles, pancakes or french toast (varied by the day). Lots of food, and freely replenished up until the 10 o'clock closing. Honestly, the nicest part of it all was the staff. From check-in to check-out, everyone was genuinely helpful (we were allowed to check in early and offered late check out when we shared that we were leaving in the evening). Was it perfect? No, of course not. The rug near the bathroom had the slightest musty odor. The pool is small and adjacent to the parking lot. Would I stay there the next time I visit Universal? Absolutely!

No two alike
I had brag about the Homewood suite located near Wright Patterson AFB in Ohio that I convinced my wife it was the best deal for this first trip to Disney, boy was I wrong and totally disapointed. Ariving late at night, the staff check in person was not very friendly or helpful. One door leading to the outside was broken were anyone could come into the hallways from the street and into where the rooms where. Our Room appeared to have a strange odar. Noise levels were high for this time of night. Breakfast was also disappointing with food not very tastefull, especially the eggs. Ohio Homewood Suites had flat screen tv's also.
