This intimate, Art Deco original is near all the best of South Beach
The Richmond bills itself as "Miami Beach's friendliest hotel." The same family has operated the business since it opened its doors in 1941, and the 92-room property is a local favorite. The oceanfront hotel and its neon-flooded exterior and original terrazzo floors fit in with its Art Deco neighbors. South Beach clubs, restaurants and shops are only a stroll away. Lush greenery delivers a sense of Hollywood glamour.
Highlights
- Family-run Art Deco hotel
- Beach path
- Within walking distance to Ocean Drive, Lincoln Road and Collins Avenue
- Heated outdoor pool surrounded by lush gardens
- Rooftop terrace and heated half moon spa and coconut palm patio
Rooms
Room decor throws nods to old-world Florida with the vintage postcard-type framed prints and palm printed curtains as focal points. Look for retro details, too, such as Art Deco floor lamps, seafoam- and black-colored tile bathrooms, a 1930s-inspired clock, blond oak headboards and accent pieces. In case of a rain shower, which is common in South Florida, grab the red umbrella in the closet. Wi-Fi and high-speed Internet can be accessed for an additional charge.
Features
The Richmond's boutique identity adds to its intimacy. Nice touches include a cement path leading to a wood boardwalk and a half-moon spa tub strategically placed in front of a winding stream. On the rooftop terrace and solarium, take in the neon lights from South Beach. An on-site cafe serves breakfast until mid-afternoon, and by night, guests can sip cocktails on the front porch.

a hidden gem
this was a business trip. The room was small. The bathroom was tiny. The staff was marvelous. The hotel was old but in excellent shape. The heated pool and Jacuzzi were first-class and of course it's just a short walk to the beach. The breakfast was ordinary but outstanding in quality and preparation. All in all, a little hidden gem. if I had the need to travel in this area. Again, I will stay in this hotel.

Below expectation
The beach and pool area are good, although service is limited. The room itself was unsatisfactory...way too small. The ac unit was so loud, I could not sleep. The hotel is so close to the building next to it that I was disturbed by that buildings ac unit...and there was a horrible wind tunnel effect. There was no coffee maker in the room. The tv was subpar and positioned so low that it was difficult to watch from the desk chair or bed.

Average for a business trip, no recomended for holidays
This hotel is quite old, and hasn't been updated accordingly to the price and location. Wifi was only free in the hall, not in the rooms; breakfast is only served from 7:30 to 11:30h, so it's not recommended if you go to Miami for business. No dinner in the hotel, luckily there are many restaurants in the same street.

Clean, Comfortable
I have not been at a South Beach hotel in quite sometime (I live in Miami so there never is a need anymore). I just needed a little getaway. The rooms were typically small and nothing fancy but comfortable. I liked the closeness to the beach.

Decent for business
We were in town for the boat show and the location of the hotel was great. Staff was very friendly and helpful. My only complaint is that our room was on the first floor and the doors are not insulated to sound at all. Anybody walking past our room that was talking we could here every word perfectly. Not a nice way to wake up. No view of course, other than the walls of the hotel next door. And no coffee maker in the room which is ridiculous. You can buy it at the little bistro for about $3.10...

Good Service, below avg accomodations
They are very nice there, and the lobby is quite fancy, a good 1st impression. Sadly, its sort of downhill from there - the rooms are old hardwood, the bathroom had dated and undersized fixtures. The pool area is quite nice, and there is direct beach access, so if you don't plan on staying in the room too much, it is good value for the beach front. Be prepared to be awoken by the noisy elevator if you're room is close to it.

Comfortable and friendly
If you are attending an event at the Miami Beach Convention Center it is an easy walk. It is quiet but not too far away from all the restaurants and pubs. I would not hesitate to go back at the price. Nothing fancy, comfortable, clean, friendly

Typical Mia Beach mid range priced hotel
As usual in every hotel I have stayed so far in Miami Beach, the service is bellow expectations, in this case the breakfast was not ready by 7am as they promised, instead I have to wait until 8:15 and I am talking about eggs, toast and ham. It was very good but late and expensive ($21). Nice staff but you do not see the customer first attitude.

okay hotel, kind of pricy
Nice location on South Beach, but rooms were very small and very tired. The pool and access to the beach were wonderful. Parking was expensive, there was good customer service. This is not the place for small children, there were no cribs or a pack-n-play and furnishings in the room were a death trap for small children. If you were young and single, the place to be, $$ for what you get.
