Great for the young & low maintainence!
We went for a two day vacation. Hotel was clean and had an absolutely perfect location. Reminded us of a beach condo we used to stay at when we were kids. If you are young, low-maintainence, looking to save some money, and are in SoBe to party, absolutely 100% stay here. Nothing extra special, but nothing missing. Perfect for the price.

Go to Lario's on Ocean Drive for low-priced yet delicious Cuban food. Pretty atmosphere and authentic food without the price tag.

Good location
The location of cavalier is VERY convenient for new comers! If you are a big fan of beach, staying in cavalier is the best choice! It's not a fancy hotel, but it offers whatever you want. The restaurant on the first floor is popular to tourists too! You can try the crab cake if you'd like!

A lil rundown, but great for nightlife
We had a late check-in, 1030pm, because of a flight delay. We had to drive straight down Ocean Drive, which was stop and go for 25 minutes to get the 10 blocks to the hotel. There was valet parking only. You have to walk through the restaurant to get into the hotel. They had lots of forms to fill out and the check-in guy was rushing me through it, not giving me a chance to read everything. The valet is cash only, $25 a night, he was extremely nice. There is a $100 refundable deposit for the night. We got a free cocktail per person and half price (it was $124 but we booked for $62) for booking with [...]. The paint was peeling, the sheets were scratchy, but clean. The room had 2 bottles of Shampoo and 2 bottle of Lotion and 2 bars of soap. Our window was against a alley with dumpsters, so a dumptruck coming the next morning woke us up. The bathroom was clean but small. There were a ton of mirrors, great for a group of girls getting ready for nightlife. The TV was small and a VCR combo, but there was DirecTV (only about 20 channels, half in Spanish) but there was a thermastat for comfort and a ceiling fan. Ocean Drive has a large nightlife, many people walking around, looking for parties.Overall, it was great to have late check-in, but check out was at 11 am, which was kinda early, since we were leaving on a cruise outta the Port of Miami. We wasted time by going to the World Erotic Art Museum, which is 2 blocks from the hotel.

Short walk from hotel
We walked next door to an Irish restaurant for the breakfast special, 2 eggs, toast, roasted potatoes and coffe for $3, with tip included. The food was good, but service was lacking. Took 20 minutes to get our food.

Not a great Hotel
This hotel was not kept up at all. The bathrrom was very tiny, had paint peeling off of the tiles. The mattress was very uncomfortable. It actually folded upward when I laid on it. (I weigh 175 lbs). I would not recommend staying in this hotel.

Great location if on a budget
This hotel is all about location!! Beyond that don't expect much. The hotel lacks every amenity known to man, but its location is great. Being able to walk to all the great dining, nightlife, entertainment, and most importantly - the beach was worth the lackluster accommodations. When we got to the room there was no toilet paper nor hairdryer or iron. The staff was able to supply an iron and toilet paper but was never able to supply a hairdryer. Once again, the hotel is all about LOCATION.

Best Value on South Beach
OK, so first off, if you are reading reviews for this hotel keep in mind not most will post good experiences> the majority you will see will be bad, because well, a bad time sticks out in minds more than a good time. With that being said I am going to give you a honest review of this hotel. So i decided to stay here for the weekend of my 25th birthday. When we pulled up I was impressed. The hotel is DIRECTLY across from the beach. Right on Ocean Drive. Its two doors down from the Versace mansion. Even though its on Ocean, its not directly next to a club, so sleep (if you're getting it) is possible. Check in was a pain...they gave us a room key..we went to the room and somebody was already getting dressed in there. Good for them (and us) we were all women otherwise it could have ended badly. After that mix-up we were given the right room key, but please believe my friend and I were both kinda shook and wary..hoping nobody came in on us while we slept or were gone. On the way tp the room the elevator got stuck on the 2nd floor> so we had to go back down to the first floor and take the steps up to the 2nd. The room itself average. we had two beds and no view to speak of. The linens looked worn, so my friend and i slept on top of our beds. we brought our own pillowcases after reading the reviews so we were fine, on that end. The bathroom is JUST big enough for one..no more no less. If you are traveling with girlfriends i suggest u work aout a scheduale beforehand because you will not be in the bathroom at the same time. Its impossible. the room left a little bit to be desired, but we both understood that we werent staying at the Ritz or any other higher end hotel. On top of that the higher end hotels werent even on Ocean but on Collins! with all that being said, we came to South Beach to enjoy south beach. not be cooped up in a room. the room was for sleep purposes only and it served it well. We were never in our room longer than 30 minutes at a time, unless passed out :) When we arrived we were given complimentary drinks. The bartneder makes them strong :) The food is good. the dinner menu is amazing and reasonable. it smelled fantastic. Our breakfast one morning was 3.99!! Couldn't beat it. If you aren't privy to their food, there are literally hundreds of hotels restaurants and eateries within a 3 block radius. There was one hotel next door that 15.00 steak dinners every night. bottomline you won't go hungry. Honestly, our room was 55 a night. We got what we paid for, then some. the location is perfect and close to everything worth doing in South Beach. the staff is helpful and the beach is across the street. If you want luxury pony up the money and go stay in aluxury hotel, if you want proximity and convenience, then stay here.
