Superb Location!

Unfortunately, the refurbishments going on were even more than I imagined. This is a great location with fantastic transportation by monorail or boat to the Magic Kingdom but with all the refurbishments going on, I don't think it was the worth the money. There really wasn't much of a lobby and the volcano main pool was completely closed. The resort did a great job of giving us free tickets to Blizzard Beach with towels and sunscreen but just a little more inconvenient to reach.

The Poly Under Renovation: A Fan's Perspective

Through the years we have often stayed at the Polynesian. We knew before our September stay that there was major construction going on and felt prepared for the changes, having kept up on the latest via the internet. Having said that, I think that anyone having stayed there in the past and unaware of all the changes would feel disappointment. Some of the ambiance is gone (hopefully to return once construction is complete). The Pros: Location, easy access to the Magic Kingdom by monorail or walk to the TTC Despite the construction there was a peacefulness on the grounds The Cons: Construction walls everywhere Themed pool unavailable Service erratic at Captain Cooks. There wasn't any notice as to how to place an order. Sometimes you were to go to the podium and at other times one had to order at the cash register. Food available 24/7. In our room in the Samoa longhouse the bathroom not designed to share with 4-5 in a room. All facilities were enclosed in one room with no separation of sink and toilet. Also, although counter space was wonderful, the area was not set up properly. Someone using an electric shaver or hair dyer would tie-up a sink, ditto the magnifying make-up mirror. The outlet should have been at the other end of the counter. The bottom line is that for 2 people this room works well. I would recommend to stay elsewhere until renovation is complete because Disney has not reduced the cost of staying in proportion to amenities, ambiance and convince.

Gasparilla's Grill at the Grand Floridian is accessible by monorail or a nice walk. This restaurant is quick service with a variety of menu items. The seating is comfortable and available 24/7. If dining outdoors and you time it right you can see the fireworks from the Magic Kingdom.

Great location despite construction

This hotel was a great location and the construction was not intrusive at all. We knew the main pool would be closed when we booked so we were not disappointed. The free passes tO Blizzard beach were a huge plus and there was a special Polynesian check in desk that provided us with towels and sunscreen.I loved the theme of the hotel and it was tastefully done. The luau was incredible. The staff was less than friendly. That s my only complaint. Not typical Disney attitudes. The cast members at captain cooks were like zombies. I guess everyone is fed up with the construction. We had a third floor room in Rarotonga building and it was a great location and we could see the fireworks at night even though it was supposedly a standard view. I would request that location again.

Disney Vacation

We had a room in a great location, but construction did block our access to some of the resort amenities. The monorail service was not what we expect. Overall, we would stay there again.

Great time at Polynesian

We stayed in one of the club buildings with the personal concierges and the room with food out much of the day. The food (and beer) was an awesome amenity. We loved the pool and did the luau show which was a lot of fun though quite pricy. We'd recommend the resort though it is somewhat overpriced like Disney resorts tend to be.

Great visit

The Poly is currently under construction. That said, it was our first visit and we found it minimally invasive. There were a few areas roped off, some views were obstructed, and the quick service dining was scaled back. That was the worst of our inconvenience. Overall not a problem. Monorail service was excellent - we rarely waited more than a couple of minutes. Staff were polite and helpful. Food options on site were exceptional. The rooms were quite large and provided comfortable spaces. Bathrooms were roomy. However, if I have a complaint it is there. I really dislike having all counter space in the one area. Makes it hard for larger families to get showered and ready in a timely manner. Hopefully as they renovate this will change. Also hope they will add a towel bar SOMEWHERE within reach of the shower and a place to hang wet bathing suits. These were two things we really missed. The volcano slide/pool is blast, can't wait for a hot tub to be added.
