Beautiful place

Spent a great week at the Island Inn. A wonderful location and the hotel is clean and offers all that is needed. We spend a lot of time at the beach and enjoyed the pool. Definitely recommend to rent bikes - we enjoyed going into town with them quite a bit.

laid back getaway

Our room was big, kitchen and bath were brand new with granite counters. Two large comfy queen beds, view of the water. The staff in the diningroom for breakfast were warm and efficient, and we had dinner at the restaurant one night and the service and food were outstanding. I wished we had a balcony or porch, which some rooms had, but there was plenty of space outside to sit. We had a wonderful much needed getaway, couldn't have done better. Even the beach, at high season, was not crowded.

Buy lunch things at Baily's grocery store (really nice) and then just stay put at the Inn.

Great location and fantastic staff - ready to help with every need. We enjoyed the resort atmosphere and private beach. We took a half-day fishing trip with one of the local guides and caught many kinds of fish as well as an up-close experience with dolphins. The only tough time on our stay on the island was when we had to go home!

Fabulous Time

Great kitchenette room with view of the Gulf. Pool was heated for colder evenings. The restaurant and bar on site both were very good. The staff was fabulous! We will return as it was very reasonably priced.

Just a bad dream Dorothy!

lets face it....this place may have been something in its heyday....now it is a musty old, at best, a two star collection of late 40's 50's shabby furnished section 8 typehousing located on prime real estate....DO NOT WASTE YOUR $$$ ON THIS PIECE OF ANCIENT RELIC....I could go on and on but I will not do so....I will give you one example, however....No two....The ice machine is located behind the bar/restaurant quite a distance from the main accomdation building.....Try getting some ice during a heavy downpour.....The breakfast consists mostly of what I would regard as left overs from other mornings....just slurp down those boiled eggs TO kick up your heart burn/GI tract:. and you get to eat starting at 8:00 A. M. Real Time....fits your schedule when you want to make your exodus from the BatesMotel at an earlier time....Did I mention sugar ants/gnats,etc....Enough said about this dump...except,I expected more for $158.00 a night...-

Perfect Labor Day

Island Inn is a perfect setting on a beautiful beach. Gorgeous sea grape trees and other native plantings grace the historic buildings. This was Labor Day weekend, the Inn was totally full, and it did not feel crowded at all. This is a spot for people who enjoy a laid-back weekend. The staff is friendly and wonderful. Our room in the Starkey bldg. had a nice view of the beach. At check-out, we were told Starkey would be closing after that weekend for remodeling, which will hopefully take care of the noisy a/c and the clumsy kitchenette. Bring your bike, or plan on driving when you want to explore the island. We enjoyed the Sea Shell Museum, Ding Darling Nature Preserve, and the Bubble Room for lunch on Captiva. We’ll definitely be back!

Very nice stay!

Room was very clean and well appointed in the Matthews Lodge with full kitchen.Centrally located on Sanibel and within easy reach of everything on the island.Beachfront was beautiful and unspoiled by large hotels or properties.Very quiet although our visit was during off-season. Pool was small but clean and served its purpose. Breakfast was simple but very good with scones, fruit, yogurt, and pastries.Fishing right from the beach with plenty of small catches.Overall a very laid back and relaxing setting, if looking for a lot of activity this is probably not the place for you.

Great beach getaway

Old school beach getaway, that's short on today's expected frills, but long on what relaxing at the beach is about. The staff is helpful and friendly, and it's just a really cool little spot
