A return to tradition at a casual Fort Lauderdale beach resort

A roomy veranda with rocking chairs signifies the casual appeal of Pelican Grand Beach Resort, a family-friendly hotel right on the oceanfront. Visitors enjoy watching time go by in the zero entry pool, lazy river and choosing their favorite ice cream flavors at the parlor. For fine dining with water views, the standard is North Ocean Grille. Rooms lean toward the traditional, with iron bed posts, crown molding and bright pastels.

Highlights
  • Spacious rooms, some with ocean or Intracoastal Waterway views
  • Zero entry pool and lazy river
  • Old-fashioned ice cream parlor
  • Veranda with rocking chairs
  • North Ocean Grille for all-day waterfront dining
Rooms

Pastels (canary yellow, lilac and various shades of blue) spread cheer in traditional rooms, suites and penthouses at Pelican Grand Beach Resort. Depending on the layout, the room might have a balcony with a view of the Intracoastal Waterway or Atlantic Ocean. Look for traditional touches like crown molding, heavy armoires doubling as TV cabinets and iron bed frames. Every room has a mini refrigerator, microwave, high-speed Internet access, movies, games and music.

Dining

Pelican Grand Beach Resort whips up a meal for every occasion. Grab breakfast, lunch or dinner by the water at North Ocean Grille and finish with a sweet treat at The Emporium, an old-fashioned ice cream parlor.

Recreation

A zero entry pool overlooks a horizon graced by palm trees and those signature South Florida sunsets at Pelican Grand Beach Resort. There, guests can either take a leisurely cruise aboard an inner tube on the lazy river or rest on poolside cabanas with their favorite tropical drink from Poolside, an alfresco lounge. Beach attendants and servers tend to sunbathers' every need.

Good family getaway

The hotel is very good. The beach is perfect. The place is really family oriented. There are a small pool and the lazy river around the pool for children to play in the water. Did not have a very good experience with the hotel restaurant. The lunch is good and the prices are OK. But did not like how the food was prepared at dinner. The prices are expensive and the food does not correlate with the price. The closest restaurant is 1 -1.2 miles away. It is better to have a car there.

Pelican Grand Beach Resort

We are the couple in our mid thirties and we loved this hotel. This is a very nice hotel for the money! It is an older hotel, but in a very decent condition, clean and nicely kept. Though to me it could use some upgrades in some places (it is 4 stars after all). Despite that all the important things were great: bed comfortable, located right on the beach and the beach though a bit narrow at that place, very clean with perfect sandy water entrance, no stones at all. The beach is miles and miles long and perfect for walking by the water. This hotel is located a bit on a side from all the action (5 mins drive), and thus is more popular with older people and people with little kids, it is quite and pastoral and may be not the best choice for the young and wild crowd. There is also a small pool and the river for floating, which is also great for kids. Note, they do charge the resort fee (for the beach service ( beach bed, towels etc)) of $15 a day and also the parking fee of $28 a night. There also is a restaurant on the ground of the hotel, which is not cheap, but very decent as well. We ate there at least two meals a day and everything we ordered was very good! Overall, we enjoyed our stay very much and would come back again for sure!

Pelican Grand Beach Resort

The rooms were very clean and elegant. The staff was very courteous. The beach views and convenience were superb. Pool has nice supply of towels. The ice cream shop and restaurants were enjoyable but too expensive for what you get. The location is best for people who want to just relax and stay in one place. It is better to have a rental vehicle or be prepared to pay for rides to activities as location is moderate walk (around 1.5 to 3 miles) from other restaurants, entertainment and tourist things.

Great Stay

We were extremely pleased with our stay at the Pelican Grand Resort. The staff was extremely helpful and attentive. The rooms were beautiful. I would recommend an ocean front room, its worth the extra money. The only negative I can think of is the cost of food. Be prepared to spend some money for your meals and drinks. The food was great but it was not cheap.

A truly charming resort

I went to this hotel in early April for 4 days and 3 nights. I went with my husband and four year old son. This hotel was truly charming. From the ice cream shop in the lobby(I recommend the dulce de leche flavor on a sugar cone) I literally had about three a day, the prices was very cheap to me( I am New Yorker). The pool and the beach are a bit on the small side, so I would not go to this hotel during peak season. One of the biggest highlights is the breathtaking ocean view form our room balcony. We stayed on the seventh floor, right in the middle. We ordered room service a couple of times, and felt that for the kind of food, it was a bit pricey. The biggest asset to this hotel is however, the warm and friendly staff. Every staff member had a smile and a very friendly attitude. The bar kind of reminded me of the "Cheers" bar.During my stay we noticed a lot of families, with small children, which was a plus for us. The rocking chairs on the deck were a marvel to sit by at night. A truly old world charm experience. Our room was very fancy and comfortable. I m already planning a return trip in the fall.

Dining tip: Long walk from hotel

My husband and I took a walk to 30th street, which is north of the hotel. There is a little strip of a mall which has a Walgreen's and a few restaurants. The walk may be long to some, (not to my husband) and it's a great way to see the area. We ate at an Italian bakery called "Pan e' Dolci". Also, a very charming place.

great stay

Although the shuttle was not free like most places we stay, and the diner at the hotel was fairly expensive for the quality of food served, we ended up walking over a mile one way to a bar and grill called Shooters. Other than that the hotel was one of the best places we've ever stayed. We will stay again next time we return to Ft. Lauderdale.

A bit disappointed...

My wife and I spent a wheel at the Pelican Grand Beach Resort. Architecturally a beautiful hotel with a covered back porch/dining area to die for, overlooking the grand expanse of the Atlantic. Nice pool and winding, heated "lazy river" especially suitable for kids, although fun for adults as well! Disappointments: need to have an engineer replace locking mechanism for door to the room delaying checking in process; very busy and somewhat disorganized and relatively expensive valet parking system; staff variably disinterested in our needs/requests and an indoor dining experience which was hugely expensive and poor....very disappointed in the quality of their dishes.... Would likely not return except to have breakfast overlooking the breathtaking Atlantic at sunrise!

Great Hotel

We had a great time at the Pealican Grand Hotel. The location right on the beach is perfect. We had a beautiful view of the beach from our room and a balcony. One downside, is you need a car to get around to resturants/night life. Taxi rides can add up. Overall, a great experince. Definatley recommend this hotel.
