Modern boutique style and the comforts of home

The Hyatt Place Fort Lauderdale Airport-North impresses business and leisure travelers with a fresh contemporary look and convenient access to the airport, Cruiseport and Broward Convention Center. Rooms have an intimate, almost Asian feel with separate areas for sleeping, working and lounging. Free Wi-Fi and continental breakfast plus a café serving Starbucks coffee cover the essentials.

Highlights
  • Free Wi-Fi and continental breakfast
  • Shuttle service to Airport, Cruiseport and Broward Convention Center
  • Stylish rooms with 42-inch HDTVs and Hyatt Grand beds
  • 24/7 Guest Kitchen and Bakery Café serving Starbucks coffee
  • Outdoor pool and hot tub
Rooms

Hyatt Place Fort Lauderdale Airport-North eschews the traditional gunshot layout found in many hotels for a space cordoned off by a built-in screen. The result is an intimate space with a separate place to work (a curved desk), lounge (a microfiber sofa) and of course, sleep. A 42-inch flat-screen TV and free Wi-fi ensure guests stay connected, while granite bathroom countertops, modern art and sleek sconces complete the contemporary feel. And how's this for a nice touch? Aquafresh Extreme Clean Toothpaste in the bathroom.

Dining

Hyatt Place Fort Lauderdale Airport-North guests do not have to miss out on their favorite treats while on the road, starting with a cup of Starbucks at the Bakery Café. Guests sit down for a free breakfast, covering more than just toast. The spread includes cereal, whole fruit, juice, yogurt, English muffins, coffee and tea. For made-to-order eggs, bacon and cinnamon French toast, hit the Guest Kitchen, which is open 24/7.

Bringing little ones? Order standbys like pb&j and mac 'n cheese from the kid's menu.

Recreation

A gated outdoor pool also doubles as a place to dine alfresco, while the Stay Fit at Hyatt fitness center encourages patrons to grab cardio on treadmills, an elliptical machine and a stationary bike.

Hyatt

Had a problem with bathtub not draining. Had six people trying to shower with a tub that fairly drained. Was not pleased how we weren't offered a very good resolution to the problem.

Nice Hotel

We stayed for one night prior to a cruise and the hotel and staff were nice, however, I do not think it is a $200 per night hotel. Also, the info on the hotel states that they offer a courtesy shuttle from the airport to the hotel and from the hotel to the pier, but it is not complimentary and id $7 per person each way. When I inquired about this, I was told that the shuttle would have to be part of your package when you book in order to be complimentary. This is a little misleading... It was in a good area-lots of neat restaurants within walking distance.

fire alarm

I stayed at Hyatt Place from 1/27-2/1/12. Fire alarm went off once at 6:30am on 1/28 and twice in the early morning of 1/30(1am and 4am). The 4am alarm went on for hours and Hotel could not turn it off. Front desk only shrug her shoulder and did nothing; no manager on site. I had to leave the Hotel at 6am because I couldn't stand it any more. It was a Horrible, horrible experience. Room is clean but staff did not replace bathroom amenity. I would not go back there if not for the close proximity to convention center.

Fantastic!

We were thrilled when we checked in and got to our room. The whole facility is very clean and comfortable. Rooms are very spacious with a mini fridge and nice travel size toiletries. Bed is comfortable. Walking distance to some stores and restaurants which was important for us since we did not have a car. Free shuttle from the airport to the hotel and from the hotel to the cruise ship pier was very much appreciated and direct since it is their own shuttle - so no extra stops at other hotels. We will definitely stay again.

Unexpected surprise

The hotel was in good location for what we needed. Close to the airport, spacious rooms, and breakfast included. One big concern was the cleanliness of the pool. But the value for the room was pretty good. The room didn't smell fresh when we first arrived, my husband had to borrow housekeeping's spray and spray the room.

Good for Cruisers

The room had some issues with temperature. The air conditioning unit is right next to the bed so it seemed like you are too cold if you want it cold or too hot if you turned it off. Instead of having a unit, central air would have been nice. The staff was courteous, especially the shuttle driver. Great place to stay the night before a cruise departing the port since it's location is so close. There are decent dining options within walking distance or just a quick drive. Just make sure you know which way you are heading because some of the surrounding neighborhood does not seem the safest.

There is a strip mall about two or three blocks away. You can go a back way and hop a small wall on the backside of a parking lot and make the walk much shorter.

If cleanliness is important to you...

...then I wouldn't stay here. Many people said in reviews that the rooms had a musty smell, but I decided to try it anyway for the convenient location and "on sale" price. To quote Arnold, "big mistake". No surprise, the room smelled musty. After a quick visit to the store, I used half a bottle of Febreze on the carpet and things improved. I always carry a black light flashlight and check hotel carpets. (read up on this, blood shows flat black, and virtually all other human and animal body fluids show as yellow - greenish) In my last eight stays, each at a different hotel in the area, this was the only room that had any kind of stain on the floor. And the scope was incredible! There were spatters, splats, spills and marks all over the *entire carpet* and even on the wall! The biggest one was right next to the bed on the floor to the left, just under a side shelf. I didn't see this as a drink spill (a toppled drink would fall away from the shelf), but as an easily identifiable vomit mess. I am SO HAPPY I carry sandals just for wearing in hotel rooms! I slept well as the bed was comfortable. But I woke up the next morning with a scratchy throat. That means: air conditioner. I checked the filters on the air conditioner and found them to be clean. As it happens, the plastic body of the air conditioner was just hanging on unit, and it literally fell off with the poke of a finger. SHOCK! The cooling fins that the air passes over immediately after passing through the air filters were COMPLETELY caked with hair / dirt / who knows what, as if the unit had been running for months with no filters. But I'm sure it was really because the plastic body didn't fit at all, so the air had been coming in from anywhere and everywhere except through the filters. That's two instances of the staff cleaning off the surface but not cleaning deep. So I pulled off the bedding down to the mattress pad. There were all different types of hair on the mattress pad, just under the sheet. Yuck! Summary: really unclean. Great price (on sale) for a large room with separate living area and wet/dry bar (I used for washing blueberries), if you can stand the low stand of cleanliness.

Ok for a night

I had to switch from the first room I was given because it smelled like mildew. The wait for assistance at the front desk took a little to long every time I went to the counter.

Okay for one night stay.

The staff were friendly and helpful. The grounds outside of the hotel were in disrepair (fountain was full of old mucky water and not running, grounds were full of weeds). The room was basically clean but the bathroom was in need of a good round of bleach cleaning and some moderate repairs were needed. Our first room's toilet had major issues and we were moved to a second room. Both bathrooms were in the same condition and needed repairs. Overall, it was fine for one night and needed the extra space of a suite without the huge price.
