Good price and location

We are happy with the hotel staff and room with kitchenette and a view in front to the ocean. However, they have to check the gass more frequently because one day at five o clock a.m. there was a strong smell of gas, and we informed the problem and stay out of the room for 3 hours.

For the Desperate only

Found ourselves stranded & in need of lodging. Avalon was reasonable, nearby & on the beach- what more could you ask for? Being desperate I didn't look at any of the reviews - we needed somewhere asap & it was available & reasonably priced. In reality, there is a reason people write reviews & I should read them. On the plus side: we got a kitchenette & while the decor was gross, the rooms were clean- no bugs in sight; two pools to choose from; very effective wall unit air conditioner; numerous public areas to sit & enjoy the outside. Minus: phone did not work, broken wall sockets, threadbare towels, peeling tile, musty smell in room, had to wait 90 minutes to get towels when we checked in, wifi signal pathetic.

Enter at your own risk

Expected very little for the low price at this great location, but was still sadly disappointed. The kitchenette consisted of a dilapidated former mini bar fridge, but no heating element. There was an oversized table with no chairs. The carpet was frayed and filthy, and walls were partially painted with new paint, but they didn't bother to paint the whole wall. The bathroom was not clean. The safe was in a lightless closet that did not get enough light from the one lamp in the room, so take a flashlight if you want to open it at night. The door lock was not a hotel lock, so you had to manually lock the door each time you left. There were no signs on the door for rates, fire evacuation plans, or hotel rules. There was no information in the room at all. We found the room next door open, with a key in the door, and a pile of drugs on the nightstand. No one was there. We told the front desk, and all they did was close the door.

Location convenient

Convenient to cruise port, airport and public transport by bus and water. Historic museum a block away and shopping easily accessible. Room needs TLC but we got a deal. All day sightseeing trolley cost $2 and water taxi all day for $17 gave us a good view of Ft. Lauderdale.

$2 hop on and off trolley covers beaches and downtown. And water taxi shows the city from another angle.

Great Location, But......

The location really couldn't get much better since the hotel is across the street from the beach. The hotel lobby is kind of dirty, and the lobby bathroom was similar to a gas station bathroom. The room actually was pretty clean. Towels felt like sand paper. No ice machine or bucket. It seemes what needs to be done is some major updating to the rooms. For the price and great location for a one night stay it's not too bad. I wouldn't bring my kids though.

INEXPENSIVE, GOOD LOCATION

Priced fair for the good location. Off st parking at $5 was fair, they waived due to my one night stay. Room was clean, but dated. overall good value for the location.

Worst that expected

I am not sure, how bad should be hotel with 2 asterisks, but I would not give this hotel any: - they do not had any chairs in the room, no desk or table; toilet leaking; fresh towels only after they will make laundry..

Disappointed and dirty

Not Clean or enjoyable

We walked in to dark. The lights were out by our room. I asked everyday to have them replaced. Nothing that the website stated was there. No dryer, coffee pot, breakfast, no phone, the air conditioner did not work, and the room was so dirty and old. The location was their only saving grace. Although Miguel the first night was nice and somewhat helpful.
