Urban chic hotel boasts kitchens and island-like pool

Neo-classical architecture and 21st century designs merge at the Melia Orlando Suite Hotel, which trumpets itself as the closest boutique hotel next to Walt Disney World theme parks. Like the master-planned community it calls home, the hotel shoots for luxury and achieves a gallery feel with its undulating lines, hardwood floors and recessed lighting. Suites treat guests to extra space thanks to separate living areas and full kitchens and stainless steel appliances. The balconies, which encircle an island-like pool, are equally impressive.

Highlights
  • One- and two-bedroom suites with kitchens, living areas and balconies
  • Minutes from Universal Orlando and SeaWorld theme parks
  • Free scheduled shuttle service to Walt Disney World
  • Two upscale restaurants
  • Egyptian cotton linens on bedding
Rooms
These one- and two-bedroom suites could easily be mistaken for high-end condominiums.  No detail was overlooked, from the rich leather seating in the living rooms to the separate showers and tubs in the spa-like bathrooms.  Full kitchens save travelers from extra dining expenses and were built for the gourmand. Stainless steel appliances glisten against dark wood cabinets. Wi-Fi access, LCD TVs and Egyptian cotton linens complete the boutique picture.
Features

Thoughtful details make a striking first impression on guests staying at the Melia Orlando Suite Hotel in Celebration, Fla. A large, round infinity pool boasts outer and interior space on which to lounge. A center "island" -- complete with palm trees -- houses extra beach chairs for sunbathing. The result: prime real estate for people watching.

More eye candy exists indoors at the Bistro Restaurant and Bar and Galerie Restaurant, where guests feast under an illuminated stained glass ceiling.

We got a good deal and it has the same basic amenities as Disney Vacation Club properties.

We are DVC members (who didn't have any DVC points available this time) and were happy to find Melia is not much farther from Disney attractions than some of the DVC Villas, and we had the same set-up of two bedrooms, a living room, deck with chairs, and small kitchen, and a very nice pool, BUT FOR ABOUT A QUARTER OF THE PRICE. Sure, DVC Villas are four-star quality, and impeccably maintained and decorated, but Melia was also clean and functional (except for a dishwasher that broke out of the cabinet, but was fixed right away), if a little spartan.

Sleepless In Orlando

The exterior and location of the hotel was lovely, as was the pool area, the inside felt like a small apartment and wasn't too shabby; however, the beds were EXTREMELY uncomfortable. It was hard to get a full night's sleep. The quality of mattress was hard to believe in such a pricey hotel room. The telephone in the living room area did not work unless it was on speaker and the wifi wasn't reliable. I noticed the housekeeper mopped the bathroom floor first, then used the same mop for the kitchen area. Gross! It's a really nice suite hotel but an adjustment of sorts to these small areas especially the quality of the mattresses would make it SOOO much better. The resort fee was a little unrealistic especially because I didn't use any of the ammenities. I basically paid $15 a night for two bottled waters, and when I asked about applying it towards a late check out on the final day of my stay the rep at the front desk was unprofessional in the way she explained that it would be charged whether you utilized the ammenities or not. A little tact goes a long way...

Perfect for Us

My diverse family of 4 (my husband and I and 28 yr old and 10 yr old daughters) stayed in a two bedroom suite at the Melia for three days during the last week of February. We were going to Universal for 2 1/2 days. Couldn't have asked for a better experience. The size of the suite was perfect. Three TVs (not that we used them), two baths, two big bedrooms and a full size kitchen. Only 10 miles to Universal. Practically across the street from DT Disney. Publix and restaurants within a block. The pool looked great but we didn't use it because it was too cold when we were there. (Yes, others have mentioned - one bath didn't have enough towels or shampoos. Big deal. I asked for them and got them.) There is a 15 dollar per day resort fee that covers transportation to parks and fitness club, etc. We didn't use any of that. However, Overall great experience and we'd stay again.

Across the street is an Italian restaurant. I think it's called Little Italy. It kind of looks like a pizza joint from the sign. But it is not. Great pasta/chicken/veal dishes at very reasonable prices. Ask for Alphonso. The computer was down when it was time to pay so we had to wait. He came over with the bottle of wine and poured us another big glass on the house.

New Year's Eve

When I got there they gave me a one bedroom suite when I walked in it was dirty and ran down. The furniture was dirty the living room floor lamp was broken with the shade laying on the couch tables were all scratched up carpet had severe stains all over they changed me to a different suite that was better but again it lacked cleanliness. I was dissapointed it looked better in photos

Good location

Our stay here was not bad it just could have been better if a few key things were fixed. The pool was not heated for the first few days and it was a bit cold in the water! The hot tub was more like a warm bath with no bubbles. Our room was very nice but we were not given more dishwasher soap, the remotes for two of the TVs needed new batteries and stopped working. There were 5 of us but only 4 place settings of dishes. No oven. It really is a nice place and people were friendly it just needs to stay on top of the small stuff!
