Sufficient
We booked this hotel based on where the group was staying. It was a tad far from Georgetown for me but that is not fault of the hotel. The event we were there for was at university. Valet was prompt. Gym was small and had to wait for a machine about 15 Minutes. My non smoking room stunk of smoke. I

Satisfied.
Overall, our stay was satisfactory. The staff was very friendly and helpful, especially the ladies who coordinated the free breakfast each morning. My wife and kids are all gluten intolerant. The breakfast staff would always find food ingredient lists (off of boxes) for me to read so I could check for flour. (I would not call this hotel especially gluten friendly, but we did eat fruit each morning, yogurt, and some of the breakfast meats.) The hotel is generally clean. Our room smelled okay and linens were mostly clean. However, if one starts looking closely, there is room for improvement. (Cabinet fronts on room furniture needed fingerprints removed and shower head needed some detail cleaning. My wife found a few random hairs in some towels. These may be things that are just part of staying in a hotel, but if you're super sensitive to those kinds of things, you may not be happy. I felt it was pretty clean. My wife felt it needed some help, but not to the point of complaining to the manager or wanting to swap hotels.) Overall, cleanliness was pretty good. The indoor pool is small and is highly chlorinated. My daughter's bright new swimsuit is now faded and both kids complained of their eyes stinging long after pool time was over. By the third night of our five nights, the kids didn't want to get in "that water" and complained of itchy skin. The location is good. It's about a 8-10 min. walk from this hotel to the edge of the main DC attraction area. We would walk over one block from the hotel each morning to 7th street, and head south toward the National Archives building. It's a nice walk with lots of restaurants along the way and a Metro stop about 3-4 blocks from the hotel. The area is busy, but in a good way. We felt the area was generally safe also. We walked from the Metro to our hotel in the early evening and didn't feel we were in a "dangerous" area. We flew into Baltimore, took a light rail train to Union Station, took the Metro to the Gallery/Chinatown stop, and walked to the hotel. There is a fire station near this hotel, so you may hear some sirens during the night. It wasn't a big problem for us. If you are a gluten free family like us, you'll find some restaurants within walking distance that are allergy sensitive, like Austin Grill, Z Pizza, Clyde's, and Red Velvet Cupcakery. It's DC, so food is expensive. There's cab service to this hotel. We would take a cab home when we were far away on the National Mall, had walked all day, and just felt our feet couldn't take the walk up 7th street and over to 6th. If we stayed here again, we'd ask for a room higher up. We were on the 4th floor and could hear some street noise in the AM especially.

Short walk from hotel
Red Velvet Cupcakery is delicious. It's on 7th about 5 blocks from the hotel. They have great gluten free cupcakes. We went there three of five nights. Not cheap, but worth it when gluten free options are low. Austin Grill is also excellent. Try the Willie Nelson.

Convenient and friendly
Good all rounder, Ok location as long as you don't mind a short walk to get to main sights. As Washington is a walking city we didn't mind the walking and it means you can eat more without feeling guilty. Great for Breakfast as it sets you up for the day. Clean, comfortable and complimentary breakfast - all as you expect when staying at a Hampton.

Ford's Theatre. This was great and well organised. We were unfamiliar with the details of the assasination of Lincoln and this told the story perfectly in a clear and easy way.

Reasonable good but not excellent
Hampton Inn is still an inn, so don't have too high expectation with the high price which is the norm in DC. We booked a 2-bed room in early January. But when we arrived on the last day of March, they gave us a 1-bed room, claiming that 2-bed rooms had been sold out. That's very disappointing. The sofa bed is terrible, and the king size bed is very average. My room was on the 12th floor, so pretty quiet. That's a plus. Breakfast is very good considering that this is still an Inn. Location is excellent.

A Good Value
My wife and I enjoyed the friendly staff. We also enjoyed how many choices there were during the breakfast hour. The location was very close to the metro. There also was quite a bit close to the hotel as well. We definitively would go back to this hotel.

Best value I've seen
First of all, every single employee of this hotel was extremely friendly. From the front desk to the breakfast servers, every person greets you with a smile and a good morning. The room was clean and comfortable, the location was easily walkable to attractions and metro stops, and the breakfast buffet was the best I've ever had at any hotel, hands down. I'd definitely stay here again the next time I'm in DC.
