Great Location

We just spent a week in a one bedroom condo in the North Building of the Lion's Square Lodge. This South Building, which is the one that faces out directly onto the mountain, is about to be completely renovated. Our room and also the balcony were a bit shabby, so one can see why they are undertaking this work. Here are some things that will not change: 1) The view is amazing. 2)The location, steps from the gondola, cannot be beat. 3)The service was excellent. Here is one thing that I hope they will change: 1) the food at the restaurant Mezzaluna was horrible except for the pizza. Honestly, the worst pasta I have ever had in my life. I hope that they get a better restaurant when they re-open for business in December. While I would like to stay in the South Building again next year, it will be interesting to see how much more it will cost. In any case, the North Building, which has already been renovated did look quite nice, even though it is slightly less conveniently located. That one should still be affordable, I hope.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

The food in Lionshead is not so good. The Tavern on the Square, which is the restaurant of the Arrabelle, has gone downhill since last year. It is a bit uneven now and frankly some of the food is a bit contrived. Not the simple comfort food classics it used to be. The Chophouse is also a bit uneven. When we went there several nights ago, the filet mignon was perfect, but we had to send back BOTH side dishes as neither was adequately cooked.

Location can't be beat!

So close to the gondola, shops and restaurants! The location can't be beat. The building's interiors and decor are tired and average, but there are plans to renovate in Spring '12. The front desk staff is "hit or miss," as far as courteousness and attentiveness. However, the ski valet and bellmen were consistently helpful and polite. The complimentary breakfast on Mon-Thurs mornings was simple but convenient. Mezzaluna Restaurant has great calamari and pizzas! Very nice that they had coffee, teas, and cookies in the lobby all day.

Time-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Take the in-town bus anywhere within Vail Village. Take the shuttle to/from the airport. No need to rent a car.

Go to Mo's BBQ! It's inexpensive and the BBQ pulled pork and the fixings are all really good! For $22 we fed 4 grownups.

Great

excellent and helpful staff. Requested a king bed on arrival and they got it instead of the booked queen. Lions head is out of vail village but the shuttle is right there...so it's not as crowded, but if you want the crowd, it's just a short free shuttle away. I'd stay here every time!

Lionsquare Lodge - Summer Weekend

Our room on the first floor of the Lionsquare Lodge (#166) was perfect for our needs. Comfortable bed, spacious room with mini fridge/freezer, coffee maker, & microwave. Small bathroom, but well arranged. Everything was finished quite nicely. (Each unit is owned individually, so your mileage may vary.) The room included a small patio which looks to the south side of the Lionshead runs at Vail and leads to a the bike path, a creek, and the lovely outdoor pool and hot tubs.
