Don't go.
Beware, the Montecito Inn does not have air conditioning! In addition, the Inn is situated directly above the main highway and the traffic noise in the room is very loud throughout the night. Both the Inn's restaurant and bar close at 10:00 p.m. and we were unable to obtain food after a late arrival due to a particularly long and stressful car journey. My daughter had taken the trouble to obtain a gift certificate for us to eat at the Inn's restaurant and the staff were obnoxious to us when we did not consume enough food for the full amount on the gift certificate. They refused to issue a refund and we were unable to use the excess amount on the gift certificate to tip our waitress. In addition, the restaurant food was poor at best. I would avoid this Inn at all costs.

Faded beauty
The hotel certainly has history and charm, but it is now bounded by the freeway and a very busy street and is therefore noisy. Our room was tiny, especially the bathroom (think airplane size plus a small shower stall), but the bathroom does have lovely hand-painted tiles and nice soaps and towels. The hotel does have pretty, old world decor in the public areas and fresh flowers througout - nice touch. The room has a small 'frig, good TV, DVD player, but is small. Just not our style. Folks into antiques might like it. Also, the complimentary continental breakfast was nothing out of the ordinary, especially for an award-winning cafe (but the coffee was excellent).

A nice experience in Montecito
Friendly and courteous staff. The rooms are nicely redone in an old hotel built in the 20's by Charlie Chaplin. The bathrooms are small but efficient and with nice toiletries. The only negative is that is that the hotel is close to the 101 freeway, and there is a constant traffic buzz. On the plus side, a pleasant and cozy bar with a good selection of wines by the glass. The on premises restaurant serves good food at reasonable prices. All in all a good experience

Antiquated, but charming.
THis was our second stay at this hotel, so we knew what to expect. Montecito is THE place to stay for us for location, charm, no traffic, quaint dining, etc. We will stay there again, definitely. They do need to do something about that elevator. It's tricky.

Charming Hotel - I would go again!
I thought it was a lovely hotel in a beautiful location. A very attentive staff who helped me with so many things. I asked if they had coffee downstairs and instead they brought it up for me and they didn't have to. I had a noisy room on the main street, so highly recommend having a room in the back. It's very quaint and charming and they have maintained the old Hollywood era. One of the few hotels that actually still has keys.

historic...
quaint, historic hotel. room was clean but well worn. bed was comfortable. room (queen bed) was on the small side. hotel was quite noisy from neighoring room, floor above...etc. in addition, room was on the side facing a neighboring restaurant with an abundant assortment of noise from dishes clinking to exhaust fans whirling. the noises from the restaurant can be almost completely eliminated by closing the window...which make the room quite hot as it does not have air conditioning. so traveler may want to take that into account during spring, fall and summer. had an issue with the room not being cleaned while we were out between 830 and 215 ish. the cleaning crew first wanted to clean the room as cleaning hours were ending at 230. they then blamed the "privacy sign" on the door which we had just hung up when we got back less than 15 minute prior. but iwe spoke to the manager, and it was pretty easy to have them come back later to clean the room during dinner hours.

Decent digs but too close to the highway
My wife is pregnant with twins and got sick while we were there and it rained all weekend. We ended up staying in the hotel the whole time. While this doesn't make for the best vacation, it allows me to give a thorough review of the accomodations. The sound of the highway was there the whole time. While it didn't ruin the ambiance, it wasn't ideal. The folks at the front desk were amiable if not overly friendly. The hot tub had a funny smell. The bathroom window wouldn't close all the way, amplifying the highway sounds echoing through the bathroom. The shower went cold and hot alternately on check out morning, which was an annoying goodbye. While the room had a DVD player, the front desk only has Charlie Chaplin movies. The pillows were limp and flat, the bed hard and the blankets heavy and unwieldy. This sounds like a bad review, but all in all it was a pleasant, restful stay and a charming hotel with a rich history and good story.

Short walk from hotel
Tre Lune was excellent. I don't eat gluten and they offer gluten-free pasta which was a plus. Jeanine's was good but way overpriced and the staff was slightly incompetent.
