Friday Night on State Street , S.B.

Nice older Hotel that was recommended to me by Paul Dargan , the owner of Dargan's Irish Pub & Restaurant @ 18 E. Ortega St. about a block away#. Dargan made an excellent recommendation and his place was fantastic , also. I enjoyed the old style Hotel and the free breakfast starting at 7AM. Hotel Santa Barbara is right in the middle of the Friday night action on State Street. State Street reminded me of the bar scene in a Star Wars film. The elevator was a historic classic worth the visit into the past. Valet parking was cheap and well done at $7 for secure parking. Jerry v. #P.S. did I mention Dargan's Irish Pub ?)

Location

Besides the great location of this hotel, which is in the middle of state st, this hotel was one of the worst experiences I've had. When I walked into my room, everything seemed clean...however, when I pulled the covers off the bed, the bed sheets had hairs and "curly" hairs all over it. Sickening! So I called the front desk to ask for a bed sheet change and they said that they would send someone up. 3 hours later, after we had returned from dinner at 10pm, I see a pile of clean sheets on the table. It seems housekeeping didn't feel like changing the sheets and wanted to just dump their sheets on the table. Talk about customer service! Also, don't bother trying to get a good nights sleep, the walls and door are so thin you'll be able to hear everyone's conversation down the hall.

Great location

Hotel is old but the rooms are clean and staff very friendly. The hotel is on State street in the center of Santa Barbara and only a short walk from the marina & beaches. If you are looking for luxury five star, then this isnt't it but if you want a comfortable, clean hotel in a great location with attentive staff then this is the place to choose.

Hotel Santa Barbara

Nice place, but the TV was on the wall to the left of the bed. You have to either lay on your left side or turn your head to the left to see it!

Great location, average otherwise

The parking valets were friendly and provided great service. No other staff member said boo to me, including the guy who checked me in. The rooms are clean and a nice size, but I heard noise from all the rooms around me. I skipped breakfast, but it looked like a decent selection. Location is fabulous and the price was fair for Santa Barbara, but don't expect to be wow'ed.

Fantastic location

We have stayed here in the past and love the location. You have everything right there, great restaurants, shopping, nightlife, and the beach a few blocks away. You never need to get in your car as you can walk everywhere and there's a trolley that takes you up State Street and along the ocean front. It is a beautiful town with many retired professionals along with a big college population. We heard many different languages as it's called the "American Riviera" and attracts many tourists from all over the world.

Nightlife tip: Short walk from hotel

There are only a few places for "live" music. One is the James Joyce on the same block as the hotel, and the other "Soho", but there are places with DJ's and dancing all up and down State Street. The Santa Barbara Bowl is a great venue to concerts.
