Poor Step Child of SHUTTERS
Very disappointing- Know Shutters, this can't be compared. Using the Shutters name is almost fraudulent. The furniture in the rooms was all banged up, the shower had no light, the TV was not HD, though large. My partial Ocean View, that we paid extra for included a 4 story parking lot. The photo of the Hotel removes all of the surroundings including a Bus terminal across the street with its share of Homeless People. Nothing like The Canaries. Definitely not urban chic.

Did not meet expectations
We love Santa Barbara and enjoy spending time in both the city and at the beach. This was our first time staying at this hotel and it did not meet our expectations. It's hard to say what the high price per night is going towards. The pros: nice decor, the bed was amazingly comfortable. The cons: staff wasn't very nice, the lobby smelled like fish, accommodations aren't even worth mentioning, and thin walls (noise from other rooms not from the street). Overall, our stay was disappointing.

Beware weddings
One of the attractive features of the Andalucia is the roof deck, which has great views of Santa Barbara. Be aware, however, that if you go in the summer on a weekend, it will likely be booked non-stop for weddings and other private events. Yes, you can use the pool (until 5:00 pm only) but do you want to with a wedding party on the other half of the deck? Would I recommend the hotel? Maybe to some people, given that it has new nice rooms, but it is overpriced (as are all hotels in SB) and not in the best downtown location (we originally got a room overlooking the Greyhound station). Depends on what you're there for.

Canary Hotel
The rooms were decorated in a very fun and modern way, but were small and very noisy. We could hear everything going on in rooms on either side like we were in one big room. There needs to be more insulation in the walls or something. Maybe it's because there are hard wood floors that make everything so darn loud. The front desk concierge could not have been more helpful and wanting to please. The restaurant manager was a complete snot and very snooty towards me when I wanted to order some food for the roof deck. I was under the impression that there would be wait service or staff for the roof deck. He kind of scoffed at me when I came down the elevator and was looking for some service and food for the beautiful roof deck. It is beautiful on the roof deck and I thought it would be great to have a drink and appetizers up there before we go out for the evening. Look out for the manager and avoid!

Canary Islands are not in Spain
We have stayed in several Santa Barbara 3/4 star hotels/resorts/inns. By far the Canary is the classiest; large rooms; baths with separate shower and tub; a 6th floor pool with a spectacular in view in all directions; outstanding service. It is centrally located a block from the main drag; across the street from Saks - - a real plus for my wife. OUTSTANDING

They care about their guests
We were pleasantly surprised at the above average courtesy of the staff. The room, while small, made up for it with the nice canopied bed and decor, with a flat screen TV in the bathroom, too. The hotel showed it cared for guests with providing a free pass to an adjacent large gym, there is a wonderful rooftop lounge/pool/hot tub area that provided a great view of Santa Barbara and very comfortable seating and lounging with a fireplace. The pool and hot tub are small, but, it's wonderful up there. There is a restaurant/bar in the hotel that's nice, but, can be pricey. There are plenty of eateries outside of the hotel on State St. The location is excellent, right next to the outdoor mall and cinemas and is in a great location to even walk down to the pier if you want to take a little longer walk. A short drive will take you to the Mission and Natural History Museum. The minor problems we did encounter were the low flush toilet. It was a problem a couple of times. Also, the bed was very comfortable, but did not have a top sheet. The comforter only was a little too warm even with the A/C on. I'd just ask for a sheet to be put on right away next time we visit.

Short walk from hotel
For low cost eating, there is a Taco place diagonally across State St from the hotel that has .99 cent tacos on Tues...also Cajun Kitchen, a diner, is in the opposite diagonal direction on Carrillo/Chulupa Streets.

Great Location & Roof Top
Great location just a block off State St for easy access to restaurants and shopping. Roof deck had a nice wine tasting event, but was not informed by hotel staff of event upon check in which is dissapointing as we would have planned into stay. Room was very comfortable and clean.

A best value in Santa Barbara
Really well done re-modeled rooms. The typical rooms are not huge, but they are very comfortable, modern, and stylish with pillow-top mattresses, LCD TVs (even one in the bathroom!) and hardwood floors.
