Sophisticated urban oasis with sweeping views in SoMa's Museum Row
Formerly known as the Argent, the Westin San Francisco Market Street has been rebranded over the course of the last decade. The result: a sophisticated, urban oasis in the middle of what locals call Museum row, a stretch that includes the Yerba Buena Center for the Performing Arts and the Contemporary Jewish Museum. Both the lobby and guest rooms are sleek and modern; art in public areas is from Roy Lichtenstein and other iconic artists. Ducca, the on-site restaurant, serves contemporary Northern Italian food and has a lively bar scene on weekends.
Highlights
- Impressive array of public art by artists such as David Hockney and Roy Lichtenstein
- Within walking distance of Moscone Convention Center
- Cocktails and Italian cuisine at Ducca, the on-site restaurant
- Complimentary guided walking tours

Disappointed
The staff is rude and do not know how to treat a hotel guest. There was more than one incidence that took place that has me extremely disappointed with this hotel. For example, the lady at the front desk didn’t think my husband and I could tell the difference between a king size and queen size bed as she tried to put us in a 1-queen size handicap room. We could not easily get an engineer to fix our TV, which did not work. Even housekeeping could not help me in retrieving a coat I had left in the handicap room this hotel initially tried to have us initially take. Lastly, I also noticed that the quality in the amenities at this hotel have gone down. They don’t give you the fancy amenities like sowing kits or q-tips; it’s just the basic shampoo and conditioner and cheap toilet paper that they have now. Other than that, the location is great.

Winter Break in SF
The hotel has a good location, the bed is comfortable, but besides these, everything is just average. Price is reasonable, given it is near union square in San Francisco.

Pet Hotel and Overpriced Valet
When we arrived, they gave us a room on the 8th floor which we soon discovered was the "pet floor". There were dogs barking and our room smelled like urine. We complained and they did give us a nicer, bigger room on the 9th floor but nothing to write home about. Also, if you plan on parking an oversized vehicle, park in the lot across the street or Jessies garage behind the hotel. They charged us $71 to valet our truck for 12 hrs! Since it was over the holidays we had no other choice- all the other garages were closed. And it still took them almost an hour to retrieve it.

Upscale attitude but only fair value
Rooms in San Francisco are all expensive, so the Westin is no exception. But while it has an air of being more expensive at the lobby level, the rooms are only average in terms of amenities and comfort. The best features are the floor to ceiling windows offering stunning views of the City; the comfortable linens; and the very quiet and efficient HVAC system. The bathroom and furnishings are nothing special whatsoever. And the ridiculous snack tray can't be moved because it's electronically tethered so you have to stare at a mini-mart on the dresser of your $250+ per night hotel room.
