The Baldwin Hotel

The Baldwin is a family-owned hotel. This was our first stay there. It was located close to BART, China Town, and Union Square. The rooms were smaller than the midwest but larger than New York, and they were VERY clean, which is important to me. The bathroom was super. Nice tub, clean tile. We stayed for three nights, and the staff was very helpful, storing our bags the first and last day, calling cabs when needed, and recognizing us when we came in after the front door was locked for the and buzzing us in. Bed, pillows, and linens were comfortable and nice. The maid who did our room left towels in different folds on the bed every day--swans, a crab, etc. It was just like the picture (I thought that was probably just for the picture--it was fun to have it.) Closet was large and had a safe. We would stay here again.

I loved my stay at the Baldwin Hotel. The hotel overall was attractive. The room was clean and comfortable. In the room I stayed, the shower area included a tub and curtain, a small space than what I am used to, however, I was still able to take a shower. The hotel staff was very creative in using towels to create animals to give the room that inviting feel. I was accommodated with a heater to use when I felt cold in the early mornings. The location was terrific and convenient to get to other areas in San Francisco. Transportation from the hotel was accessible. I felt safe in the area of the hotel despite the fact that the hotel still uses keys. Nonetheless, a staff member mentioned that they will be upgrading in the future. I will say that at the time of check-in, I was disappointed that there was a security deposit of $100.00. I did not have a problem with the policy; however, I would have liked to have been notified prior to my arrival. Also, the hotel makes shuttle arrangements to the airport and a non-refundable deposit is applied. The non-refundable policy was not told to me at the onset of making the arrangement for the shuttle service. Hence, the amount was not refunded when I later made other arrangements to the airport. The hotel does not serve continental breakfast. For the most part it was a pleasant experience and if I return to San Francisco in the future, I would certainly stay at the Baldwin Hotel.

The hotel was very basic, but completely clean and contained all the essentials. Staff was polite and helpful. Great location -- walking distance to all of Union Square, easy access to Muni and BART. Would absolutely stay there again.

Not expensive. Good location. Clean room. Sometimes slow internet.

The location of this hotel is great and price was right for the area. It's an older hotel but the room is very clean and cozy. Would stay again and would recommend.

The staff where more than friendly and we had no trouble changing our room as first one was noisey. Very easy to see all the sites with this very handy location. Second time we have stayed and will have no problem staying when we next visit. The room would be just great if it had a fridge [ice m/c on ground floor].

Absolutely perfect location, accessible to basically everything you'd need in the city. The room was pretty standard, clean and comfortable. Nothing to complain about. Don't let the small lobby worry you, my room was very large. Only qualm was that my particular room layout meant it was very difficult to see the TV from the bed...but that's kind of superficial and you shouldn't be watching TV in SF anyway!

there were building works in the lobby, and the staff seemed distracted. Breakfast was distinctly average. However, rooms were very clean and comfortable, and the location is fantastic. price was reasonable for what you get.

I took a chance on this hotel...it was great! Big clean bathroom...I was next to the elevatol but still not noisy..and a super location for shopping, taking the bart, china town etc. I think this is the best value I have ever had!
