Their century old pensione-style hotel is steeped in Victorian Old-World charm. From the moment you ascend the first set of stairs to Registration you feel as if you were leaving the real world and entering a unique piece of history. Life was a bit different in the old-days, and they haven't changed very much since then. The shared bath facilities feature pull-chain toilets and a claw-foot bathtub. These facilities, located in various locations around the hotel, are rigorously cleaned daily and are private when in use with a lock on the inside. The halls display decades of history and the shelves feature an ever rotating library of books and periodicals. Two massage chairs add comfort and relaxation to your busy day of traveling or touring. Their Front Desk offers concierge services if you should need to inquire about tours or tickets, restaurant recommendations, or to book shuttles to the airport, among many other things. The hotel offers complimentary Wi-Fi to connect you to the outside world when you need it. There are coin-operated laundry facilities on-site. Parking is available for an additional fee off-site. Pets are allowed on a case-by-case basis and a cleaning fee applies per night per pet. Hotel is a non-smoking property, a cleaning fee will be applied for smoking in the room. For the adventurous, or the curious, the San Remo Hotel will delight your senses and expand your horizons.

Dining

Fior D'Italia
This Old-World Italian restaurant pairs nicely with the Old-World Charm of the hotel. Chef Gianni Audieri cooks up dishes he remembers as a child. Serving lunch and dinner on ground floor, the staff will make you feel as if you were whisked away to the countryside of Italy. The Fior D'Italia also features a lounge & bar to relax for a drink after a long day of traveling or touring. The bar itself was shipped from the east by way of Cape Horn, the same path many explorers took to find the Jewel of the Bay: San Francisco.
Pat's Cafe
Pat's Cafe features delicious home-cooked breakfasts with Pat's own special touch. Just outside of the box, her personality and her food are one of SF's best kept secrets. A favorite of guests, Pat's Cafe serves breakfast and lunch only a block away from the hotel. When you see the colorful facade and famous red clog's, you know you're there.
Caffe Capriccio
Across the street from the hotel is a quaint and cozy little cafe with a red awning that serves up excellent coffee and delicious food for breakfast and lunch. Open early for that first cup of Joe, Caffe Capriccio is the perfect spot for a light breakfast before a day on the town.

Great location, would return

The San Remo is a quirky hotel, and an interesting place to stay. The shared facilities are super-clean, and I only had one brief wait to use a shower. The decor is great, and the rooms are comfy if a little small. I had a sink and a window - I wouldn't have fancied one of the interior rooms, but that's just me. Only grumble is the hairdryers - it would be better to say that you don't have them than to have people rely on being able to use them. I tried two, and they were both pretty useless. All in all though, I'd come back. The location is very good, the staff are helpful and it's a nice change from generic chain hotels.

A San Fran Gem

San Remo is great! The location is perfect. Not your typical hotel - small cottagey rooms and shared bathrooms and showers. It was super quiet, staff was friendly, the location is great and the price was fantastic! Also, taking a shower in the claw foot tub, with the stained glass window wide open to a San Fran view was pretty awesome. I would absolutely stay here again.

Quaint Hotel

When the description states "hotel facing sink in room" I didn't think twice about it, the rest of the description was nice and I came away with a feeling that this Hotel was trying to come across as an "Old World" style hotel. It absolutely is not was trying to come across, but it is. The sink description was their way of letting you know this hotel does not have bathrooms in your room, it is a sink. The rest of the facilities are "community" down the hall. After you get past that understanding (hopefully before you book the room) you will realize this is a GREAT hotel, wonderful staff and a distinct feel I have only seen in European hotels. We will definatly stay here again!!!!!

Dining tip: Long walk from hotel

If you like pizza you have to go to Tony's. No reservations and the wait will probably be close to an hour, but the best pizza I have had since living in Europe.

Super Cute Hotel

The hotel is super cute and the staff is super friendly. Everything was clean and I felt very safe. The bed wasn't the most comfortable, but given the historical nature of the hotel, that is only to be expected. Only complaint is the noise. I was in room 29 and could hear the dishwashers in the restuarant downstairs. You could also hear others walking around and closing doors in the hotel. But, again, that can't really be avoided in hisoric buildings. Overall great place for the price paid!

I was in for one evening. It is not a business hotel. It feels like a great weekend getaway with the wife. Community showers and sink and no TV. Everything was fine.

Excellent Bay To Breakers Experience !

We knew before coming that we were staying at a smaller hotel with limited accomadations because of the age and size of the Hotel. The Hotel could not have offer a better experience not only for the cost, but also for the charm and staff. When we arrived back at the Hotel at 1130pm on Saturday evening, the staff had made goody bags for all the Bay to Breaker Walker/Runners. What a wonderful touch and great support of the event. Also upon arriving and checking out the staff could not have been more professional, helpful and nice. :)

Quirky

We were just looking for a place to sleep since we were arriving late one night and checking out early the next morning. We chose the San Remo hotel because it was cheap and reviews said it was clean. Our stay was pleasant and we had a room with a sink and shared a bathroom with the rest of the floor. You could hear a lot that was going on on the floors around you at night but it didn't seem to last too long into the night. The mattress was not that great- kind of like a mattress you get in a dorm room. I wouldn't have stayed there more than 1 or 2 nights because of the lack of privacy.

fantastic stay at a quaint hotel

Fabulous location, able to walk to all our favorite places. Very clean and quaint facility. Staff was friendly and helpful, let us check in a half hour early. The beds were small and not as comfy as they could have been. The bathrooms are shared just down the hall, but we never had to wait and everyone staying at the hotel were very friendly and accomidating as well. The rooms were not soundproof and while our neighbors were quiet, we could hear doors opening and closing. All in all wonderful location and I would stay again, and reccommend to friends and family!
