Really Nice Hotel (especially with online prices)

Did a weekend in San Francisco with my mom. The Palace is in a perfect location right on Market Street which is a nice through-line for the city. The room was comfortable with 2 doublebeds and plenty of space so as not to feel cramped. The exercise and pool facilities are a highlight as was the beautiful decor and dining room. Overall, the hotel is pricey, but I was lucky to get a deal online ($143/night). If you can find a rate within your price range, would definitely recommend staying at the Palace.

The Hidden Vine - awesome wine bar. Go for happy hour or after dinner for the wine, ambiance, and outdoor bocci ball court.

Quick Trip

We are Bay Area locals and stayed just for a quick weekend getaway to be prepared for an early morning in the city. The hotel was clean, comfortable, and convenient-- just what we needed. We used the BART system to ride into the city, and the hotel is located mere steps away from the Montgomery Street BART entrance, making the trip very easy. Check in was a breeze, and our room was well appointed with luxury bath products, complimentary bottled waters, and a comfy bed. My boyfriend struggles with chronic back pain and has a hard time sleeping because of it, but he slept like a rock on their mattress! It was wonderful! We were disappointed not to be able to have time to take a dip in the beautiful pool, but managed to have a drink at the Palace's Pied Piper bar and loved the old photographs showing the hotels historic past and famous visitors! Over all we had a wonderful stay.

weekend in San Francisco

We spent a wonderful 4 days at the Palace. I can't remember staff who were more friendly and helpful in a long time. All the rooms, private and public are gorgeous. The pool was wonderful and most of the time we had it to ourselves. My only critique would be that WiFi/internet should be included in the rooms. It's 25.- daily in the rooms, but free in the lobby.

Stay for a play.

Beautiful, historic building. Wonderful location. Check in slow due to only having one staff person, but she was very good. Nice room, but no in-room coffee. Food in restaurant WAY over-priced ( had a conversation in the elevator with a couple carrying McDonald's breakfast about $12 bacon and eggs and $6.50 coffee). And in the 21st century, having to pay for in-room wi-fi is a problem.

Nice place

The Palace Hotel is a good value. Significantly cheaper nightly rate than most of the other 4 star hotels in the financial district. Clean rooms, great service. The atrium restaurant is beautiful and the bar is great. Its an old hotel (+/-150 years?), but that adds character and prestige, not a detriment -- long history of many past presidents and heads of state have stayed there. Highly recommend.

Time-saving tip: Not Applicable

The Market Street area is tricky to navigate by car due to the one-way streets and no-turns-allowed in most intersections. If driving to the hotel, approach MUST be from Market Street traveling EAST! Turn right at New Montgomery, entrance is 25yds on right side. If you miss the turn it is a real pain to navigate back. Expensive overnight parking ($59 per night!)!!

Historic hotel, centrally located

Ideally located next to Montgomery Street BART station for this storied pre-1906 hotel. Truly grand in all respects although the modest sized rooms, additional wi-fi charges, and limited soundproofing between rooms might be a problem for some. That said, this is an exceptional hotel experience.
