Easy stopover from Sonoma
Staff was great. Room was small and out of date but it was perfect for our needs. We worried about the street noise but never heard anything with the fan unit on during the night. The FREE parking was such a bonus.

Nice place to stay
I was in SF for a 4-day midweek trip, and really liked La Luna Inn. The staff were extremely helpful directing me to transportation options (I decided not to rent a car, but used buses and streetcars instead). The location is nice, out of the busy part of downtown, but near the Presidio/Palace of Fine Arts/Golden Gate Bridge, and very convenient to bus lines going downtown, to Golden Gate Park, and the area near the Haight. Chestnut St. restaurants are within walking distance. Room was small, but clean and comfortable, The free breakfast was simple but good, very convenient way to start the day. There's some traffic noise at night from busy Lombard St., but not bad. Pretty safe neighborhood. Overall, I enjoyed staying here!

While in San Francisco, check out the City Guide walking tours offered by the staff of the Public Library. They go all over town, and are free (though a $5 donation is recommended). A good way to find out about good places to eat, and very informative. Ask for a brochure at the hotel. I took the Washington Park/Italian neighborhoods/Chinatown one, and it was a lot of fun!

weekend trip
This hotel was quite nice, its small, but not to different from more expensive hotels ive stayed at in San Francisco. The staff were amazing, helpful, kind, and courteous. They offer a small offering of breakfast, toast, oatmeal, fruit, coffee, and juice. The location cant be beat, chestnut street/union street shopping, the waterfront, and the palace of the fine arts all a short walk. The only complaint i had was my door desperately needed new weather stripping, it was a little drafty. But the heater worked great and warmed it right up. I would definately stay here next time im in town.

Better than expected
Staff was excellent. Receptionist went out of her way to get us a cab. Late check out was not a problem. Room was super large and clean and faced the back so not ridiculously loud. Free, covered parking spot was huge bonus. Nothing fancy - at all - but good place to crash for night. Pillows were foam, so if you like down, bring your own. Just can't expect much more for this price in SF.

Clean room
Appears to be recently remodeled. Room was clean. Close to restaurants in the marina. Continental breakfast was oatmeal, toast, juice, coffee, and an orange. It didn't have a pool.

Nice Simple Hotel
Hotel was nice. It's located on Lombard Street so its very noisy with all the cars passing by. On our second night, the young guys in the next room were very loud so we had to call the reception desk. The staff is very friendly and asked them to keep it down. On a clear day, we could see the Golden Gate Bridge from our room. Overall, I liked the Luna Inn and would recommend it.

Great remodel, great location, plus free parking
I stayed at La Luna a few years ago with my kids and found it to be satisfactory. I was pleasantly surprised during my recent visit (June 2012) by the great remodel - they've upgraded and modernized the guest rooms and bathrooms. Plus, can't beat the free parking and easy walk to shopping and restaurants on Chestnut and Union Streets. Overall, a really good value. I would skip the less than mediocre complimentary breakfast and eat at one of the great breakfast places in the neighborhood like Judy's on Chestnut.

If you're into burgers - beef, veggie or otherwise, try Barney's on Steiner between Lombard and Chestnut. They also make some great sweet potato fries!

Great place for kids
it is just a few blocks to the beach next to the golden gate bridge, the exploratorium, the duck pond columns, and a great public playground. It also is on lumberd st and one block from chestnut st; so there are many restaurants, coffee shops, markets, and boutiques to explore. The free brakfast was terrible, and lumbard is a noisy st The beds were some of the nicest I've slept in while traveling. With comfortable mattresses, and nice quality bedding.

Motel updates but only a paint job!
Not a good experience at all. While the staff was reasonably helpful they could not make up for the noise of the street, outdated showers, terrible TV options and no working elevator! Dated and tired discribes this facility.

Great dining is available almost anywhere in SF...but avoid the Presedio Social Club. Over priced and overhyped...food was less than average.
