Sophistication with an Asian flair and an indoor pool near Union Square

Hotel Nikko feels more like Hong Kong than San Francisco. The lobby is spacious and stark, and rooms are minimalist in design. The on-site restaurant, Anzu, serves up Asian food with a Japanese focus. Distances at the on-site pool are measured in meters. Just steps from Union Square and the Moscone Convention Center, the Nikko is perfectly located for business travelers in town for conventions. At the same time, it is comfortable for families accustomed to sophisticated luxury.

Highlights
  • Live jazz at the Rrazz Room
  • A short walk from the shops and restaurants of Union Square
  • Spacious fifth-floor indoor pool
  • Sushi and other Asian-inspired fare available at on-site restaurant Anzu

Hotel Nikko March 2013

Very nice hotel in downtown San Francisco by Union Square. I stayed on the 8th floor. High pressure flushing toilets got annoying ... especially when flushed by other residents at 5am. Seemingly every morning between 6-7am, there was loud banging outside in the street. Wished the rooms would've had microwaves, but they don't. I was really in the room for sleeping for the most part and it wasn't the quietest. If you want a good location, you have to sacrifice some of the finer things. It was still a nice stay.

Hotel Nikko San Francisco

The issue really comes down to how a hotel chooses to make additional money. They can either charge more for the rooms or charge for amenities. Most of us think hotels should find a way to make rooms and amenities affordable. But at Hotel Nikko SF, they charge for internet and use of the fitness center. I think hotels that do that are lame. A $20 one time fee for fitness center use and $20 per day use of wifi is ridiculous. Otherwise, a great stay in a comfortable and clean that had a pleasant staff.

As advertised, nothing more or less

Great central location. Normal 4-star quality in terms of rooms, cleanliness, lobby decorations, etc. $20 to use the pool/spa is silly as is the $15 daily Wifi charge. However, those over-charges for basic amenities are expected at 4-star places. Restaurants/bars within the hotel are similarly useless in terms of value. Would stay again--never booked for amenities, just location so I'm happy.

Nice hotel for the price i paid

Overall this is a very nice hotel. The location couldn't be better. It's within walking distance to the shopping area, the museums, and the BART/MUNI station. The room was kind of small but it was well-kept. I am going to have to agree with some of the other comments I've read about too many fees. There are fees for internet access ($15.95/day#, fitness center #1-time $20 fee). Other than that, the hotel was A-OK.

Great Stay

I really enjoyed my stay here. The facility was well-maintained and provided easy access to most of the city. I was annoyed by the fact that so many of the hotel's amenities, including wireless internet and the gym, came with additional costs. Overall, I enjoyed my stay very much.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Don't waste money on cabs when most major bus and rail lines have stops that are only a few blocks away.

One night in San Fran

The location of the hotel is great because it is in walking distance to just about everything but that was the only real up side to the hotel. The staff wasn't helpful nor were they all that friendly and the bar which is supposed to open at 2:00PM was dark and without any sign of staff and I went down to grab a glass of wine at 2:30PM! Oh and by the way, I was told by the concierge that the bar was open!!! Too expensive for no service at all.

Lovely place to stay

This was my second time to stay at Nikko. The room is nice, clean, and comfortable. Since I was traveling with a lot of electronics, the numerous power outlets made me happy. One thing that I wanted that was not available in the room I had was a refrigerator. The front desk staff can be rather abrupt at times, but eventually you get where you're going.

Great experience, got to the hotel a little early and room was not ready, came back at 3pm and my room was upgraded because of the wait. Went to the A.C.T. theate which is right up the street. Great shopping close by too.
