Historic sophistication and French dining in Pacific Heights
This Pacific Heights mainstay dates back to 1902, making it one of the oldest hotels in the entire city. With distinctive Bay windows, vintage architectural details and English antiques, the Hotel Majestic San Francisco ushers guests into another era -- complete with modern conveniences such as flat-screen TVs and Wi-Fi Internet access. The on-site restaurant, Cafe Majestic, specializes in French cuisine.Highlights
- Period decor transports guests to another era
- Stellar shopping, restaurants in Pacific Heights
- Complimentary sedan service to the financial district on weekdays
Rooms
Roughly half of the Hotel Majestic San Francisco's 56 rooms are suites. Period antiques, original artwork, flat-screen TVs and monogrammed robes are standard in all rooms. Some also include mini-refrigerators, decorative fireplaces and claw-foot tubs. Many rooms offer bay windows with city-skyline views. Complimentary Wi-Fi Internet access is available and guests receive nightly turndown service with freshly-baked cookies.
Features
The Hotel Majestic San Francisco was constructed in 1902 on the estate of Milton Schmidt, a turn-of-the-century railroad magnate and member of the California State Legislature. It opened as a hotel in 1904. Because the property survived the 1906 earthquake unscathed, it holds the distinction of being San Francisco's longest continuously operating hotel. Today, all guests have access to a complimentary Town Car service to the financial district on weekday mornings. Dry cleaning services are available (fees apply), as are passes to a local gym complete with Nautilus workout equipment and a pool (fees apply). The on-site restaurant, Cafe Majestic, was renovated in 2009 and re-opened with a menu that spotlights French cuisine. The eatery's lounge area offers happy hour specials. Valet and self parking are available (fees apply).Transportation

Good value
I was in the city for a week for a conference. The hotel was in a good location downtown, walking distance from the mission district, and accessible by bus and taxi from the convention center; the room was clean; the staff pleasant; the wi-fi worked well; good water pressure. The only limitation for me was the size of the room - I had a very small room with a tiny window that faced the alley. So, only little natural light. But I know that the hotel has larger rooms that face the street.

wonderful old Victorian
stay below the 5th floor, in the old 1902 part of the building. rooms are small, sure, but beds are comfortable--overall way above the 2star rating this hotel gets. Bar is nice, and nearby restaurants on Filmore Street, and Japan Town, are many and varied.

Don't understand
Room(s) were great. Unfortunately upon checking into our room we quickly realized it was not the room I booked. I go to the front desk to explain the situation and the gentleman says something along the lines of; "yea when you book with a third party you don't always get the room you booked so we have to give whats available." Really? There were four adults and we didn't book the room with two twin beds. So he gave us the key to a different room. Hooray! Wait a minute this next room only had one bed. How are we all going to fit on one king bed? So I jumped back on the elevator and back down to the lobby I go. I explained the new problem with the new room (the one with only one bed) and he was kind enough to let us keep both rooms. Great recovery from the staff, but was this whole mixup really necessary?

The arcade at Fisherman's Warf was the most fun I had had in years! Good luck finding it though. It's not where you may expect it, but it is near the submarine.

excellent value
Very happy. The room is very nice and clean and there are excellent maps available at front desk. The staff are well informed and helpful and go out of their way to help you. You are about 20 mins walk from union square which is great and within easy access of buses to fisherman's wharf. perhaps a little long a walk from the centre but this is a minor gripe. For the money we paid we are very happy with this hotel and would gladly come back.

Convenient but Dusty
Nice location but room had a musty dusty smell. Had to be transferred to a new room because first room had no working heater. If you need to park, do not use their valet service. Park on the street which is limited to 2 hours during the day or free overnight after 6pm or park in the Japan Center parking for $19 or so a night. It's safer and indoors and secured. This location is safer than closer to the Civic Center. However, I would rather pay a little more and stay at the hotel connected with Japan Center. It is a much nicer hotel.

Go to the best Japanese restaurant in Japantown, AKA TOMBO which means Red Dragonfly. It's at Sutter and Buchanan. They have a gourmet class chef. Everything on the menu is great! And it's affordable. It blows the other Japanese restaurants in the mall out of the water. I know it sounds crazy for a Japanese restaurant but try the miso marinated lamb chops. They will melt in your mouth!

Quaint and historic
Between Castro and Fisherman's Wharf, a great location. Like a trip back in time... Antique furnishings, elegant decor, a true classic. We felt like early 1900s glamour!

Old hotel, friendly atmosphere
The hotel is in a need of updating. Other then that the rooms are clean, service is friendly, and location although a little farther from the main attractions is not bad. It is much closer than it appears at first.

Stay Number 2
The hotel is a comfortable place to stay. A little off the beaten path, but safe, clean, and comfortable. Away from the bustle and hustle of a major or downtown hotel. This place has helpful and friendly staff without the lines. The lobby is quiet and welcoming and has a very relaxing atmosphere. A real breath of fresh air!
