Very comfortable room, great staff.

The hotel is centrally located, near the financial district, union square, great restaurants, and the cable car line! The loaner beach bicycles are fun to take out for the day.

Things just seemed to work out for us...

The best service we could have dreamed of. We came in early and were going to drop our bags before exploring the city on our first day, but the front desk allowed early check-in, which blew our minds! We were able to gather ourselves and rest a bit before hitting the sidewalks. The best thing besides service about this hotel is the complimentary bikes! We used these all day, daily, and got a great glimpse of the city without stuffing ourselves into over-crowded MUNI buses. The room was small and comfortable. Honestly, we felt like we were staying in someone's guest room in their home it was that cozy and inviting. The energy there was great, no creepy atmosphere (the hotel is over 100 years old). The bedding was amazing and the beds out of this world. We slept like babies. It is 3 blocks from Union Square, so great location with bars and restaurants all around. Will stay there again! They are renovating but it really didn't affect us at all...

Hubby's Birthday Trip To San Fran

We arrived at the hotel @ 3pm, which was supposed to be check in time (per my printed confirmation). The agent advised that our room was not ready and to come back at 4pm. We came back at 5pm and asked if there were any upgrades available as the agent told us we would not have a view in our assigned room. She said that she could upgrade us to a "suite" for $80 per night. When we got to the so called "suite" we were very unhappy and dis-satisfied as it was not a suite, but a very cramped adjoining two bedroom. Literally, it was two hotel rooms with one entrance!! It was only myself and my husband so we did not need or want a two bedroom room, we just wanted a sitting area, refrigerator and a view. We had to go back downstairs to ask for another room, and were re-assigned our original room type. The website advertised nightly tequila tastings and a complimentary continental breakfast--neither were available. I was very disappointed with the false advertising. I'm not sure if this happened because the hotel changed ownership? When I booked this trip several months ago, it was advertised as a Best Western but I was told upon arriving that it is a Pineapple Hospitality resort. I definitely will NOT book this hotel or recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing vacation. It was noisy, cramped, and uncomfortable.

Sightseeing tip: Long walk from hotel

The sunset cruise was amazing. Beautiful views of the Golden Gate, Alcatraz, and Angel Island. The food was pretty good, and the boat was not overcrowded. I would take it again and I would highly recommend it!

I loved the hotel decor! Beautiful rooms! Great service! The room was a little small but the the price, service and everything else made up for it.

Not at all what I thought....

We stayed here for three days as part of a West Coast family vacation. Walked into the hotel and it smelled like a urinal. I rented three rooms. The rooms were ok for sleeping although bedding smelled musty. The TV in one of the rooms was broken and they said they couldn't fix it until the afternoon of the next day so moved them to a smaller room. None of the rooms had a flat screen TV like they show in their advertisement. There wasn't any 'shot of tequila' on arrival. In fact, the guy at the desk was less than enthusiastic that we were even there. NOT AT ALL WORTH THE MONEY! Looked at the Hotel Diva down the street and it was cheaper, closer to Union Station and much nicer. But, because of CheapTickets policy, our stay was non-refundable. Extremely disappointed with the hotel and the CheapTickets policy which kept us trapped in this place.

Welcome to the Hotel California!

The hotel itself had a lot of charming "deco" touches & CA kitch(loved the mural on the ceiling and quotes above the crown molding in our room!). The staff was very helpful and friendly- before our arrival and during, and having the Millenium Restaurant attached to the site was a real plus. While the location is technically the theatre district, it was clear that it was on the fringe. Turn left out of the hotel and in a couple of blocks you hit great restaurants (Pinecrest Diner, Biscuits & Blues and many more) as well as the theatres, shops & energetic nightlife. Turn right or below Geary and walk down, say Jones St., and it gets a little sketchy. Avoid it walking alone at night...Exception to check out: Bourbon & Branch (a speakeasy! make a reservation and they will give you a password!) and the line-out-the-door-popular Dottie's True Blue Cafe. A 10-15 minute walk to the BART, Union Square & Chinatown. While the front desk staff was good, the housekeeping was sub-par. No handtowels when we 1st checked in, but surprise!- they were there the next day--but no replacement box of tissues! Our phone was not connected to the wall(!?!) but we didn't realize it until we were checking out and wanted to call downstairs for a taxi! Only snag- When booking this hotel, CheapTickets included continental breakfast in the room description and price. Upon check-in, this became an issue as the hotel usually charges extra for it. I showed my CheapTickets receipt and they (a bit begrudgingly) honored it, but this needs to be addressed between the hotel and this site... The shot of "Welcome Tequila" and wine & cheese in the evenings were all nice little touches.

Sightseeing tip: Short drive from hotel

Fisherman's Wharf is NOT very walking friendly from the hotel (Those steep streets!) but a lot of fun to get to by cable car--and free! The trick is being patient enough to wait for a car with enough space... If you "cab it", you can expect to pay $9-12 one way, inlcuding tip.
