Convenient
The hotel was extremely convenient, comfortable, and friendly. An excellent option for the city center at a very reasonable price.

Great find
I stayed for 5 nights at the hotel Bijou to attend a conference at a nearby, more expensive, hotel. The Bijou (if the name did not give it already) is a movie theater-themed hotel that has a mini-cinema and rooms named/decorated after movies. Most of my fellow travelers seemed to be families - many of them European. The Bijou is located a short block from the BART Powell station, and very close to Union Square. The neighborhood is a downtown mix, which may get loud at night and some parts not far from the hotel may be a bit sketchy. However, I am a single woman, and did not get into any trouble when walking from the conference to the Bijou at night. The room was fairly small (only shower, no bath, small TV), but clean and comfortable. The bed was great. The personnel was friendly and useful - coffee/tea are available all day, and continental breakfast is served in the morning (nothing elaborate, but bagels were good). I did not have any problem connecting to the (free) wireless, which is a key thing for me. I travel to San Francisco fairly frequently, and always stay at boutique hotels - I will be back at the Bijou!

Short walk from hotel
Try the Blue Bottle coffee in the Mint Square near the hotel for some nice sandwiches and espresso for lunch. The area is quiet and relaxing - seems miles away from the downtown action.

Hotel Bijou Review
The staff was VERY friendly, they gave me suggestions where to and not to go (Tenderloin District.) If they hadn't told me, I would have probably walked right into trouble! They played 2 movies every night. I told the desk clerk that I was a fan of Alfred Hitchcock, as their hotel has classic movie names on every door, and low and behold, he was playing The Birds the very next night. The room I was in was a little loud, but I was forewarned that it would be in the front of the hotel and I may experience some crowd noise. This place was great for the price, friendly, safe, and right in the heart of the hustle and bustle. When I return, I definately going back to this place!

Great Value
My son and I went on a vacation the first week of February. We were very pleased with the hotel's location, being close to Bart, and being able to get a Muni pass. It was a short walk to just about anything. You can get your hair done a few blocks away. Plus there are many restaurants nearby. We will stay there again.

I booked this hotel without having any reference other than the written reviews I found on the site and based on that and the price I chose it.. upon arrival I was upgraded to a better room without me asking for it. The staff was very cordial. the room was excellent ..great toiletries included that were so helpful like facial cleanser and night cream..amazing. Very clean and location was perfect.. I highly recommend it.

good location, not terribly comfy
very close to everything you need in SF. Front desk staff was very helpful. Rooms were small but workable. Bed was not very comfortable and linens remind you of a hospital. Lots of street noise. But overall, for the price and location, I would consider staying here again.

Great Location
We went to San Francisco to go to a couple of baseball games and enjoy the local restaurants. The hotel is located within a block of a BART station which made traveling around very easy. It was also close to Market Street so shopping and restaurants were all close by. The rooms were clean. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. The only problem was the noise. We were on the 4th floor yet we could easily hear the voices from people on the street. There were some homeless individuals making a lot of noise during the night. It woke us up several times. It must be a continuous problem because the hotel provides ear plugs in the room.
