Right at the Chinatown Gate, one block from French Quarter
The location is excellent. Right in the middle of Chinatown, Italian and French areas of town. Walking distance to downtown where my conference takes place.. Enjoy the early morning Chinese traditional breakfast as if living in Hong Kong and have lunch in the most lovely French Restaurant. Walking to the piers and see the Bay. Price is great too.

They tucked us in the corner I think...
The location was just perfect for what we were looking for, however, the room we were put in was the size of a closet and smelled of mold/mildew. By peeping into other rooms when the staff was cleaning them, I saw that some of the other rooms were not as bad, and had better windows. I would recommend paying the extra money for a bigger room (we had a single double-bed room). The one thing we did appreciate was the staff downstairs. One particular guy at the front desk helped us through everything and even ordering late night pizza.

Cab from the city (financial district/union square) is about $50.00. You can take the bart in for about $8.25, however, the bart often smells like urine and is full of characters...

Amazing location!!
The hotel was nicer than I expected. The location is amazing! (one block from the entrance). You can walk to the square and all the shops from the hotel. The station is only about four blocks away. The only downside was parking. It was expensive (anywhere in the city is expensive to park though) but we had in and out privileges so that was nice.

Perfect for Budget Travel & Location
I'll be honest, this is a no frills hotel but you can't beat the location. Rooms are probably as small, if not smaller, than studios in NYC but clean. If you're traveling on a budget this is a fair choice. Grant Plaza is at the beginning of China Town (safe side near Union Square) and it's across from the well known Sushi Rock with a Starbucks a block away. It's an easy walk to the convention center and BART Powell station. I stayed in room 310 which was nice because it was at the end of the hall with only 1 room next to me and an alley way on the other. the walls here are pretty thin, I could hear people flushing toilets and showering but this is typical for an old building like this. PROS: Free WiFi Great location CONS: Street noise at night (bring ear plugs) VERY small stand up showers Painfully thin towels No complimentary toiletries other than hand soap

Short walk from hotel
Walk down Grant towards Market towards "Metreon" signs to get to convention center and Target. Going to the airport? Take the BART transit from Powell and Market- it costs around $8.25 and only takes about 20-30 minutes.

Grinding It Out
Basic Lodgings; Fair Price
The Grant Plaza is pretty basic, which is something you should understand if you book it. Amenities are minimal. The location is quite convenient to Chinatown and the financial district, and is fairly central to a lot of good activities in SF. It's a small room, but it is very clean. Parking is a few blocks away, and costs about $28 per day. Overall, if you're on a budget, you'll be happy with this place.

Short walk from hotel
A very nice little restaurant, Le Central, is around the block on Bush. Never seems too crowded, like some of the watering holes near the financial district will get after 5 pm. Another block down the hill on Bush you'll reach Belden Place, an alley full of restaurants, from Italian to seafood to Spanish. You can also walk down the hill on Pine from the hotel to get there.

I heart SF
Will not stay again
Well, I was just looking for a place to stay one night in SF. So, I decided to stay here. But if I am going to travel SF again, I wouldn't stay here. Why? 1) As soon as I entered the hotel, it smelled bad. Of course the room smelled bad too. 2) You can hear all the noise from other rooms.

acceptable room
Location is fantastic!! No doubt for that. Room is very small, barely can turn around in the shower. Not as clean as I would pay for $70 and the hallway and the room has a wired smell.
