vocation in San Francisco (04/4/13 - 08/4/13)
The hotel was located in a good location (civic centre), but close to 6th street, where is a lot of homeless angry people. Close to BART. The cleaning service is ok (every day I got a clean, fresh room). Stuff is helpful. You have access to the swimming pool, fitness centre in another hotel (next one to the "Good Hotel"). For that money it is a good hotel

My boyfriend and I recently stayed at the Good Hotel for almost 2 weeks. While overall the room was nice and the hotel staff was very friendly, we could have had just a couple more things to make our stay even better. Check in was easy and as we arrived early, we checked our luggage with the staff and went and got lunch until the check in time. Even though we reserved a room in the main building, we recieved a room in the "courtyard" and area around the parking lot of the hotel. Still fairly secure, but anyone could walk in off the street as there is no gate to the parking lot, and we were on the ground floor. We didn't have any problems as there were video cameras around the lot. The lobby of the hotel was nice, clean and fairly small. I was disappointed that they advertise their cool decor filled with pictures people have taken with their photo booth, only to see that the photo booth was out of order the entire two weeks we were there! Our room was clean, and pretty basic. A small pull down desk just big enough for a laptop, a dresser, closet and small bathroom with a shower, no tub. Sheets and towels all seemed clean though, no issues there. Shampoo, conditioner, body wash and hand soap all supplied which was nice. A large gap under our door (about an inch) however, led to a muggy room after a couple days of rain, and some insects at night that could fly in. We ended up putting a towel up against the door every night we came back. There was no refrigerator or microwave in the room though, which meant that we couldn't save any money by getting snacks or saving leftovers from restaurants. There was an ice machine in the lobby, and the only bottled water in the room was for sale. The tv worked well, and had about 20 channels. The bed was extremely squeaky however and there was no chance of having a quiet sleep if you are a light sleeper who rolls around at night. Our windows were also facing the alleyway next to the hotel..we had blinds and shutters that helped keep us closed off but one night we could clearly hear a group of 10 or so people yelling/fighting with each other and threatening violence, which wouldn't have been a problem in the main building as it is off the ground level. There are vending machines in the lobby, but a restaurant in the hotel across the street that we never ate at. Free coffee in the lobby in the morning, but no breakfast to speak of, unless you can find it in the other hotel (don't ask the front desk at the best western, they will just direct you to the restaurant). Our internet was also terrible. On a good day we could load a page in a couple minutes, and had 3 different networks to choose between, all with the same results. The reason being we were within range of all three sister hotels (The Good Hotel, Best Western and Clarion Inn). We could also use the pool and hot tub at the other hotel since they were sister hotels. I would recommend staying at the Best Western, since it was still in a good location close to the Moscone conference center, and BART and MUNI stations, and has basic amenities most hotel frequenters are more accustomed to.

If you plan on spending any time traveling around San Francisco and using the public transit, I highly recommend getting a Clipper Card. You can get them at the ferry terminals, and BART stations. Load up some money in it and quickly get on almost any form of transportation, including the ferries, BART and all MUNI transit. Keeps you from trying to find cash or buying a ticket every time you want to go somewhere, and makes you appear more like a local!

Good stay at Good hotel, SF
Everything has worked out fine for me at the Good hotel, San Francisco. Location is great: while within two short blocks to Market street and Civic Center, it is away enough to avoid the hustle of the area. Room was spacious enough and was kept clean. Wi-fi was all right most of the time. There was a safe in the room. The staff is very welcoming.

Great concept, but needs a face lift
Not being familiar with the area, I was looking for a hotel located in the SOMA area of the city. I didn't realize that this hotel was not located in the best area of the city, and is close to an area that many residents consider dangerous. After some further research, I found that the area is very "up and coming" and the city is putting a lot of efforts into reviving the area, which is nice to see. This hotel has a great concept, but it does seem very "dorm like" - really like a cheap motel that they redid. I think the hotel should really take the concept to the next level - they say they are "sustainable"and eco friendly - but I was wondering what actually was? It would be cool if thay promoted this aspect more and included more details in the room. More example, things like organic sheets, fair trade certified snacks in the vending machines, organic soap/shampoo in the room, etc. With a few simple additions, this place could really shine.

Perfect Location
The hotel is situated just 2 blocks from the the main bus lines, tram lines and BART. Only 2 bus stops away from Westfield Mall/Union Sq. The room is clean and adequate, however my only dislike is the "motion-sensor" fan. While sleeping at nigh the fan will automatically switch off as there are lack of motion in the room. I've to get up every hour to switch the fan back on. Made a complain at the font desk, but nothing was done. Luckily, the weather in January was chilly, thus the lack of fan is not too big of a problem. It will be a problem in summer when the room is stuffy. Great free coffee in the morning. Highly recommend this hotel.

Money-saving tip:
Short walk from hotel
Take the BART directly to and from the hotel. Stop at UN/Civic Center station, cost per trip $5.85. From the station it's just a short 5-10mins walk to the hotel.

design for a decent price but beware no free parking and charge for incidentals
stayed for 1 night with my boyfriend. nicely designed budget hotel with "hip" conveniences like phone-charging dock speaker alarm clocks. No free parking included as originally booked based-on.. Beware of that. We had a car and I booked this hotel because I thought it had free parking. Was slapped with a $30 parking charge.. If I'd known this earlier I would not have booked it and would have booked a slightly more expensive hotel with free parking. NOTE: They put a $75 charge on my card for "incidentals" even though I booked through this website. They did not tell me that putting this "pending charge that would not charge my account" on my debit card (vs a regular credit card) would tie this money up for 5 days. This annoyed me. That was money I could not use on my trip. hotel elevator sort of a nightmare. bed comfortable, if a little stiff with scratchy blanket instead of a duvet. breakfast and pool were across the street so we didn't make it to take advantage of that.

Dining tip:
Short walk from hotel
Go to City View Restaurant on Commercial Street in Chinatown for top notch Dim Sum brunch. The best dim sum I've ever had (and NYC's Chinatown is my mainstay). Get there by 1 to get in and out by 2:30 pm when restaurant closes on weekends.

Great value hotel
I was in San Francisco for a week for a conference and so the Good Hotel was my best option given its proximity to the convention center and the price. Most other hotels by the time I booked were twice the cost or a ways away. Some reviews I read weren't great, but I think these were by people staying in the hotel's second building. I was in the main building, which is comfortable, clean and friendly. The other building is more of an open motel style, which I wouldn't want to stay in by myself. I will say though- the Internet, at least in the rooms, was terrible and the neigjborhood isn't great at night. I would still recommend it though since its also in a central area and its an overall nice hotel!

Comfortable, quick stay
I had an exceptional stay at the Good Hotel. The staff were quite helpful and the room was perfect in regards to cleanliness and the amenities we wanted. The only thing that I had a slight complaint about was the lack of ease it was to get the heater to work (which it never did), seeing as it was quite cold and raining the night we stayed. Overall, it was great stay at the Good Hotel & I wouldn't object to returning.
