It was exactly what I paid for.

Hotel was clean but did not readily offer amenities such as coffee for any length of time, and no coffee shops were located nearby. They did not provide covers for coffee cups making carrying coffee to the room extremely difficult esp when carrying two cups

Not bad at all

My wife went there on a business trip and I taged along, with that said the hotel was OK and the staff was outstanding!at every turn they tried to help and give sugestions to whatever was asked of them. The only knock on the whole trip was the area the hotel is in,it's not a place where you want to be walking around much after dark, but theres not much the hotel can do about that.

Acceptable at best

Overall the hotel is OK. It is not in the nicest area of town and on a couple mornings I had no hot water. When using wired Internet, the connection was good, but WiFi was abysmal.

Best Western Americania - SFO

We stayed here for three nights and found it to be perfectly suited for our needs. Before booking, I read many reviews that emphasized the location being in a "rough" area... well, I would agree that it is not the greatest neighborhood, but we walked from the hotel each day and returned each evening.... never felt unsafe, certainly encountered homeless and loitering peeps along the way, but that is much like every area of SF we visited. The room we had was very clean, well appointed and we enjoyed our stay there very much. We used the MUNI system extensively and the bus was less than a block away on Mission. We were not able to use the pool as temps outside we cool.... but that and the excersize area were well kept and fully functional. We enjoyed sitting outside the room in the open air atrium each evening. Parking was reasonable at $20, [...].compare that to many of the hotels deeper in the city at $40 and up PER NIGHT... so all in all, we loved the place, the location and our whole experience was great there.

Best Western Americana

One thing I was disappointed to find was that the rooms open up to outdoor hallways. Considering it was raining the whole time I was in San Francisco, this feature was quite inconvenient. The furnishings were cute and retro and the linens were fine. The hotel close to the federal buildings and market street/union square shopping

They lie to your face.

My husband and I went to SF for a night for fun and this hotel looked nice and the parking was the cheapest. So i thought i had made a good choice, boy was I wrong. When we first arrived, the front desk manager told me that it was safe to walk to dinner, 2 blocks away. He also made sure i used my credit card for the 75$ hold which he said would be pending till i checked out then it would go back to my account. That's two lies, when we first walked in our room, we thought it was small and we thought we were getting a king bed, wrong all they had were double. So the bed was small and the room was really small. We found a drug pipe left in the room but really didnt want to deal with getting a new room, hey the room was clean at least. We turned on the tv and it was really fogging and we didnt get a lot of channels. So we walked to dinner, the walk there was ok, but the walk back was the unsafest i've ever felt in my life. Thank goodness we didnt bring our daughter with us on this trip. There was crack heads everwhere, and drunken homeless guys everywhere. It was so scary and unsafe. So it's been 5 days since the night i stayed there and the 75$ has yet to go back in my account. I will never stay their again, this was the worst trip ever because of our hotel choice. Pick another hotel please, and you have kids, you better pick another hotel.

Great weekend

Very close to the gay bars south of Mission and to all shopping areas. Walking distance to Powell St and the Cable Car, to the Westfield shopping mall and the Metreon theaters. But be aware that it's a district with a lot of homelessness.

Review of the Best Western Amercania, SF

Overall the hotel was OK, it was very clean, and had new furnishing. I will say it was not what I had expected for a Best Western property though. It is recently remodeled with retro style furnishings which I got used to in a few days (very abstract colors and designs). The location while semi close to a nice area, is a few blocks into an undesirable neighborhood. I personally felt safe but would not recommend it for a young family or single travelers. It is an older hotel and the area is run down with a lot of street noises hear from the room. The staff was very friendly and they offered free internet and free printing. The rooms are large.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Lots of nice eateries can be found in close walking distance, Tin a nice Vietnamese, Basil a nice Thai restaurant and a short walk away a very cool old Irish Pub with homemade Irish food and great pub food called the Cheiftains is about 5 min walk. Shopping is near by too, about a 10-15 min walk or a 5 min cab ride. Bart public transportation is nearby as well.
