Good, but not great.

Overall I was happy with the room and service. I was not expecting to have to pay seperately for parking. Very retro styling, which may not be for everyone. My wife loved having the exercise facility.

Good idea, doesn't always work tho.

This was a solid place in a sketchy area....and I am from New Orleans where we have our own issues and I know them well! We never felt our lives threatened BUT we did feel very uncomfortable while coming and going from the hotel. We witnessed a drug bust (3 feet away) and a shooting by police (across the street) and were constantly bombarded by bums and I say bums over homeless in the sense that the city seems to encourage these folks, almost like it's a career! ANYway other that the sins of the city the hotel itself was just fine. Maybe trying to hard to be funky but very solid and the customer service was REALLY good.....those folks, all the staff, were always being asked questions and doing things for guests and they did it very politely and without complaining and without having a bad attitude! So KUDOS to the staff. It makes sense that a place like this with a smaller cost would not be at the top of Nob Hill. It really is NOT an attractive or even entirely safe area but the staff was VERY GOOD!

Could have been a lot better

I stayed here 2 years ago and enjoyed the experience. It's lost a lot of quality since then. The housekeeping service was not consistent. Two days we didn't get washcloths, the ice bucket was emptied just once in 4 days. I had to request soap at the front desk because it did not get replaced, and I don't think the room was ever vacuumed while we were there. The room was way too hot, and housekeeping kept turning the fan off. It was also located in a rather scary part of town. More than once we were asked if we were sure we wanted to be taken to 7th and Mission by a cab driver or concerned San Franciscan. The worst was when they had a lot of groups of young people check in for St. Patty's Day. They were running and yelling and shouting and making all kinds of horrible noise until well past midnight. I tried to call the front desk to ask them to please do something about it, but was put on hold before I could utter a word, and after 15 minutes gave up. They never picked up the phone again. When I addressed the issue the next day at the front desk, all I got a a parroted reply about a "no-partying" policy. That's all well and good, but the yelling a running and pounding was worse than a party would have been. Why is it not reasonable to ask a bunch of 20-somethings to show enough respect for other guests that they walk normally and keep voices down late at night? Needless to say, we won't be back at this hotel ever again.

I could sit at Pier 39 all day, every day. Eat, drink, shop, or just listen to music and watch the people pass by!

Not a bad hotel, terrible staff

The room itself was not bad at all. There was a blood stain on the couch, but thats something I can live with. Also, the heater didn't work well, and I was cold all night. I'm not sure the thermostat was actually connected. Don't bother calling the front desk, they'll never pick up, you literally have to take the elevator down to get any service. I opened the pull out couch, and realized the bed had been slept in and the sheets were used. I went to the front desk, and the first time he tried to convince me the sheets were clean. I went back to check, and they clearly weren't. I had to go down a second time and basically demand he bring me some new sheets that I could put on the bed. The hotel was also very loud, with young adults yelling late at night in the courtyard.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Tony Baloney's is a great place to eat down 7th street. Unfortunately, they're not open on Sundays.
