Great for what it is.

The Aida Plaza is older, and a bit run-down, but I was in town for a conference not a great hotel.... See full review

Horrible !!!

I have traveled a lot in my life, but this is something else.. Elevator is broken - Room on the 6th floor No refunds policy - otherwise it doesn't pay off since the price is higher Room stinks from cigarette smoke Dirty Private shower stinks, sink outside the bath room - yakkkk TV- Mid ages, not even a single channel to watch Scary surroundings outside - but it is located right between the Civic and Union , cant feel free to walk at night NEVER EVER STAY THERE EVEN IF YOUR LIFE DEPEND ON THIS, find something else at that price or pay more.

SFO Bargain Escape

First, I'll mention that I have traveled professionally for 35 years for a F250 company all over North America with some international and have experienced both the agony and the ecstacy of being on the road. For SFO and this area in particular, this is truly a No Frills bargain. My traveling companion and I had upgraded our room to the private bathroom and this was still considered to be an "Eddie Deal". We had taken the Amtrak from Denver to Emeryville (a different review another time) and from there, took the BART train to the Civic Center/UN stop. Although it was raining (Christmas Day 2012), we had less than 1/2 of a block to do our rollerbag dance to the hotel across the street. The F Line streetcar and several other SF Muni busses operate in front of the hotel and the end of the line for the Powell cablecar is just several blocks down the road. The hotel is located in an earthy neighborhood guarded by some of the city's finest homeless types, but I'm OK with this and there were no incidents, but surely others would not feel secure in this setting. The hotel has a policy of turning in your room key at each departure but this makes sense as it helps to keep the unwanted visitors away. The room was very Plain Jane with a separate bathroom-toilet and full tub. Out of the ordinary, the sink was situated in the main bedrom. Room cleanliness was what was expected for this type of accomdation-not hospital-like, but good enough. Bed comfort was better than what was expected and there was a dresser and desk to complete the room furniture ensemble. The internet service was not working on the 5th floor, but functioned well from the hotel lobby. Day old donuts and sub-par coffee was the continental breakfast of the day. Dottie's restaurant, some two blocks away, was a great place for breakfast and serves their patrons on a first come, first serve basis-there was a 15 minute line to get in, but the out of town visitors that were in cue were friendly. My list of doable, inexpensive room improvements include: a light over the sink for better grooming illumination, installing a hook on the outside of the bathroom door would allow one to hang their toilet kit in close range of the sink area and include a separate sink/tub stopper. The sink is an old style, spring loaded regulator type. Overall, this was not a Honeymoon suite accomodation but for those who need a deal on a place to crash, this would be the ideal place. Thanks for taking the time to read this-happy trails.

What a crippy room

Because of low room rates i booked this hotel. The location is great, close to union sq. but be careful when you walk on market st. There are some drugged people and homeless people. When i entered a room on 3rd floor i was speechless. Dirty, old not classic.. Dont go there

Horrendous Experience

Shoddy, run down, dirty and uncomfortable are just some of the words I can use to describe my experience here. The surrounding area is terrible and my overall experience was nowhere close to being stellar. Don't be fooled by how cheap the rates are. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

Worst hotel and room ever

This is the worst room and hotel I have ever stayed. I am 70 years old. It is a flop house in a very bad district. Don't let them give you room 307. No desk, sink with seperate hot and cold faucets with no plug. No place to place your toiletries. No towel racks. One small bar of soap nothing else. 4 drawer chest two of which had no handles and would not open. 14" TV from the 70's, no cable, 14 blurry channels. WiFi didn't work most of the time. Small toilet and even smaller shower. Small bed from the 50's. The entire lobby and staff are just as bad. Instead of charging $125 a night they would be robbing you if they charged $125 A WEEK. They pray off of unknowing foreign travelers who don't know any better. If I were cheap tickets, I would remove this hotel from my lists so as not to embrass your website. I prepaid and had no choice but to stay for my 3 night reservation while attending the SFGiants 3 game weekend. I feel sorry for future unsupecting travlers. I would not take my wife or any other family member to this hotel. I warn you DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL.
