Day trip

We liked the location of the hotel to where we needed to go the next day. We asked for directions and were given them in great detail. We would stay here again if we needed a place in San Diego again.

Way over priced, but good location

Decent location in San Diego. The Gaslamp is fantastic. But for the cost of the hotel I expected something that felt like luxury, and ended up only being surprised that the water bottles in the room were free. I'll be looking out for hotels that are half the price for the same experience, or pay the same for a boutique hotel that provides a very personal feel.

eeehhh....

wasn't bad i guess but i thought since i shelled out a little more $$$ for one of the "new rooms" it would be worth it. my room was the same as my friends who paid a lot less than i did. valet guys were useless and sent us in one big circle only to tell us there was "self parking" which is $20. bar sucked/not ready. wait till renovations are done, looks nothing like pictures.

Construction zone

There was a lot of construction at this hotel which significantly impacted the experience. The people at the hotel were excellent which made up for some of the inconvience and noise. I know businesses need to improve and get better but I think the guest should be given a heads up on something this significant going on at a vacation spot. I can imagine that this is an excellent hotel in an excellent location when all the noise and construction is not going on.

Good hotel in a great location

The Westin Gaslamp Quarter is a very good hotel. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the staff is friendly and helpful. The location is fantastic: next to the gaslamp district and relatively close to the water and other attractions. The only downside is that is has no bar or restaurant, although that is supposed to change in May 2012. I would definitely stay there again.

Good Gaslamp access

Hotel location is it's best asset. Rooms are clean/comfy. The lobbies/hallways have a ghetto appearance, but it they appear to be in the process of renovating. The staff was solid. Only negative is there was a protest right outside the hotel the next morning, so it did suck to wake up to bullhorns and screaming at 7am after a late night in the gaslamp.

Overall Fine Experience

The initial hotel experience from check in to room service to check out was perfessional and courteous. The concierge servicer was very knowledgeable about the restaurants in the area. The room was small but nice. There was only two dislikes I had. The hallway leading to the elevators were still underconstruction and a bit unsightly. And the shower head vibrated loudly when the hot water was turned up. Outside of those two dislikes, the likes did out weight the dislikes.

Dining tip: Short drive from hotel

If you really want to find out the best eateries in town, i.e. San Diego, San Francisco, just google it. I found a fantastic burger joint and breakfast house that was knocked my shoes off great.

Great hotel, great location

The Westin Gaslamp Quarter is a fantastic hotel in a prime location. It's easily accessible to the San Diego public transit (MTS) and the main ticket office is right across the street... perfect if you aren't renting a car. The hotel is only a 10-15 min bus ride from the San Diego Airport (route #992). Right next door to the Westin is Horton Plaza, a huge outdoor shopping mall with a wide variety of shops and restaurants. There are also many other restaurants, bars, and attractions within walking distance of the hotel. The hotel is nice and clean and has all of the features one would expect in a luxury hotel: pool, fitness center, hot tub, concierge. My only complaint is Wi-fi isn't free. The staff is very helpful and friendly. We've stayed at this hotel twice and would stay there again without hesitation.

Entertainment tip: Short walk from hotel

Right next to the Westin on the top floor of the Horton Plaza shopping center is the Mad House Comedy Club. It's a five minute walk from the Westin and a great way to spend an evening in San Diego without having to stray too far from your hotel.
