Better than expected
We enjoyed our stay at the Sofia Hotel. It is in walking distance to the Gaslamp Quarter which is a huge plus. I know a lot of people wrote in regarding the size of the room, and I'd have to agree that is is rather small, but that was not a deal breaker. I'd say the most unpleasant part was the thin walls. I could hear a lot of noise from the hallways and from other guests nearby. Other than that, it was a very nice hotel - great bed, service, towels are huge, two complimentary water bottles, free bikes to ride around the city, etc.

Only OK
It was only ok, from the check in, to the room, to cleanliness. The best part was the location, it was in walking distance to almost everything and the CTA stop was right across the street. Brian at the front desk was the best part of the hotel. Super friendly and informative about anything in the city.

DAMAGED MY VEHICLE
The valets ($30, by the way), Damaged my new vehicle and the company they contract with said the they asked the valet- he said he didn't do it, so its not their fault. Don't stay here- the rooms are tiny and there were dogs yapping at me ALL NIGHT, plus the neighbors had a party- I know because I heard EVERY WORD through the wall. On top of that, it wasn't cheap- you can stay at a WAY nice hotel down the street and NOT have this problem with your vehicle getting damaged. Also, in all SIX of the rooms my family booked the TV's didn't work. Super fun. On the plus side, the room was clean, and the staff was polite-- until I noticed the damage on my car.

Great Location
Easy walk to the Gaslight District and beach. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Great to stay in a place that offers free internet, fitness room, newspaper and bottled water.

Sofia in downtown San Diego
Great prices for a beautiful hotel, close to gas lamp and lots of restaurants. The only gripe that I was that there is a Greyhound Bus station near by and that leaves very "suspicious" characters nearby. Other than that, everything was great. Rooms are a bit on the smallside.

Don't let the bedbugs bite you
The hotel was in a great location. The staff was friendly when checking in. However, the toilet was having issues. there are no shower doors leaving a mess on the bathroom floor. The blow dryer was not working and my sister found fleas in her bed and was bitten by them (pet friendly hotel). On the positive side, The hotel restaurant was amazingly good! I would visit it again and again.
