Alternatives for those seeking extra-cozy ambiance are the Pearl's semi-private poolside cabanas, the intimate bar or the restaurant that presents exciting and eclectic dishes with seasonal, local ingredients.

Wonderful customer service!!
When we arrived at the hotel the first night we were informed that a flood earlier in the day had meant we were bumped from our reserved room to a smaller room. The hostess was very nice and informed us they would be comping our brunch the next morning, which was delicious! The wait staff and manager were extremely friendly, and we made a point of eating dinner there the next night as well. Every time I stay in SD it will be at The Pearl!!

Unbearably Loud-Beware!
The hotel has a bar/restaurant downstairs, and they play very loud music with base setting on high. Weekdays you cannot sleep until 11pm, and weekends until 12, starting 4:30 pm. The base is so loud that the room is trembling. If your ideal hotel room is one in the middle of a dance club, then this is your place; however if you are an average person expecting rest and sleep, AVOID THIS PLACE!!!!

Day trip to SD
Street traffic noise was too loud so we asked to move to a room facing the courtyard. Staff was very friendly and moved us. Warned us that diners might be loud too. Wasn't actually that bad (more like murmur of voices..which is better then the sound of cars zipping by). Loved the decor of the rooms and our fish friend. Room was clean and the bed felt great. Short car ride to zoo, botanical gardens, coronado, and restaurants. Will definitely come here again next time we're in SD.

Trendy Hotel for Reasonable Prices
Room is Small but clean, modern. Great Location in Point Loma. Great Draft beer selection in bar. It is loud in bar / restaurant for happy hour and up until 11pm but we didn't care. didn't get to try food. Only thing that sucks is you have to get ice from bar area. Get an ice machine for guest!!!

Awesome retro feel
This hotel was very unique in many ways. There is a beta fish in every room. The color scheme is very nice. They show a movie on a huge projection screen by the pool on Wednesday nights. The staff is very kind also. The only thing is that the location and outside of the hotel seems a little sketchy until you go inside.

Not as advertised...
Sorry to say that when I drove up to the place I was really disappointed. First off there is VERY limited parking. So if you have a nice car don't stay here. Second the rooms have used IKEA like furniture. The bed gave me back pain and this is from a guy who can sleep on a air-bed for weeks. The bed sheets were ripped and were yellow, the carpet were not meant for walking barefoot, and house keeping wasn't very good, I could go on but you get the point. On the positive the location was good, it's close to a lot of things, the pool/restaurant was 'hip.' I just was expecting more.....call me old fashioned.

Fantastic hotel!
I will be staying at the Pearl Hotel whenever I am in San Diego. The room decor was delightful and very comfortable. I loved having the Beta fish, Rambo, in my room. The courtyard area was very cool, I wish I had been able to stay on a night when one of the Drive-in movies was shown! Fantastic place!!

A Real Gem
We knew this was a small, older hotel that had recently been remodeled. It has a nice contemporary feel, very friendly staff, and perfect location. We could walk one block to the water, get great seafood at a nearby waterfront cafe, or a great bakery/cafe just up the street. All the sights of Point Loma, the Lighthouse, and museum were within a close ride and provided great views from both sides of the peninsula. Everything was easy to reach and the staff always eager to give directions and/or print them out from the computer. The restaurant ideas from the staff were very helpful. Our single evening meal at the hotel was excellent and in an inviting atmosphere out around the pool. We walked only one block to a very good and inexpensive seafood place on the water (Mitch's) that had daily specials and the grilled shrimp street tacos were outstanding. The hotel has outdoor movies on a big screen every Wednesday night, but we were there on a Monday and Tuesday. The only down side was the noise from the street. On another visit, we'd pick a room at the back of the hotel. They had good coffee available every morning, but no coffeemaker in the room. A small Keurig would have been nice. The parking is very limited, but we found a place to park on the street that worked out okay. The WiFi worked great and was easy to access. The room was small, but very well appointed and especially fresh linens, with lots of pillow choices. Good reading light over the bed with a swing arm that came in handy. We travel a lot and found this to be quite charming for a short stay. We would certainly recommend it to our friends.

One nation under God
Fine for the college student
If your looking for a cheap place to stay for the night, this will work. Not the cleanliness of places...mold and hair in the bathroom, gum on the floor, dusty counters, old curtains...and you can hear everything going on outside.....Plus you have to pay $10 to park per night if you can get one of their 10 spots! Really, your staying at the hotel, you have to pay to park there too! And if you cancel a night, you have to go through whatever site you booked from, the hotel has nothing to do with it..whaat a hasel. The idea of the place is cute, lobby, pool, bar and resturant. Great location. Just hope you get one of the newer rooms. Good luck, I will not be returning.
