Hip, open-plan hotel in historic Gaslamp Quarter
The Keating is a small, 35-room hotel in the center of the Gaslamp Quarter of downtown San Diego. Designed by Pininfarina (read: Ferrari and Maserati) and opened in 2007, the hotel prides itself on its unconventionality and caters to people with active lifestyles. Brick + Mortar restaurant within the property offers varieties of mouth-watering cuisine, served in a casual ambiance with nightly live DJ's. The Keating also offers meeting facilities and in-room couple's massage and aromatherapy. The property also offers complimentary entry to PCD Dollhouse.
3 Reasons To Stay:
Cutting-edge, Pininfarina-designed boutique hotel in a listed, historic 1890s building
Located in the vibrant Gaslamp Quarter near San Diego's major attractions and entertainment venues
Fine dining, Italian wine collection and exclusive wine tastings from local wineries
The Keating Rooms
The 35 luxurious 'stanzas' (guest rooms) and suites feature customized furnishings, such as spacious closets, ergonomic chairs, and custom-design beds by Pininfarina. Many aspects of the 1890s building, like mahogany fittings and stainless steel, remain. The loft-style rooms feature no interior walls: the traditional bathroom/bedroom division is replaced by an open floor plan. Resin and concrete floor treatments eliminate the need for carpeting. Expansive ceilings and the building's original exposed brick walls complement the decoration.

Live like a rock star at the Keating
The rooms here are absolutely fabulous and perfect for a sexy weekend getaway! In room amenities are amazing from the Jacuzzi, rain shower, awesome stereo system, the espresso machine, and the super-comfortable bed! Only drawback I could see some complain about is there is noise from the bars on street level below that can be heard at night, so if you want absolute silence at night this is not your place; but I didnt notice it with the sound system and TV in the room

Special exceptions
I stayed for 1 week. I used the hotel for sleeping and a couple hrs work/night in the hotel. It's a very satisfactory experience with some exceptions. The hotel charges about $10/24h for Wifi despite the payment. My room had bare floors, which were cold. The bed was very comfortable. The room is spacious with a "warehouse" and well-decorated contemporary style. Staff was very friendly and cleaning service good. A holiday Sun. night was very noisy outside for several hrs and a Thursday night was somewhat noisy for a couple hrs; it did not bother a heavy sleeper. An additional $3/night "historic tax" was charged to my bill on checkout. The location is excellent for accessing local eateries and the convention center. This hotel is generally as satisfactory as most others except for the exceptions described above.

no sleeping here
This hotel is not appropriate for anyone who is interested in actually sleeping at night, and especially is not appropriate for families. The pounding music and the late night parties in the hotel made is nearly impossible to get any sleep at all. That said, if you want a party weekend in San Diego this would be just perfect.

odd hotel
The Keating was in a good location especially if you like to go out at night. The rooms were strange. The open shower in particular was odd. No door on the shower. The floors were cement both in the shower and in the room. There was an enormous expresso machine on the sink, with no directions. And because of the machine, very little space for toiletries. I was disappointed that the hotel had no food service whatsoever. This was especially an issue in the morning. The color scheme was bold and interesting. Bed was comfortable. The staff was helpful.

Close to San Diego Convention center
Good location, walking distance to the San Diego Convention Center, but depending on your room can be noisy. Modern rooms: showers are open with bathroom incorporated to the room, OK but odd specially if sharing a room. Breakfast was included but did no start unil 8am and was not able to get breakfast since I had to be at meetings at that time. Staff is helpful.

Great location for the price
The hotel is located in the heart of the San Diego Gas Light district with dining and entertainment all around. The hotel has modern amenities like an espresso machine, a top of the line TV and entertainment system by Bang & Olufsen,a "monsoon" shower, and a luxuriously comfortable bed.
