Dining

North Park Neighborhood Restaurants
Quickly becoming nationally recognized for it's culinary diversity and appreciation for craft beer, the neighborhood offers Lafayette guests an incredible opportunity for food exploration. We encourage you to dine with us once (ok, maybe twice) and then experience the local cuisine within our wonderful neighborhood! Our front desk can assist with recommendations and reservations.
Red Fox Steak House
The quintessential steakhouse that doesn't just reach for the lounge vibe, it helped define it. The entire interior was shipped to the United States for blonde cinema actress, Marion Davies, and was dismantled (again!) and installed at the Lafayette during the 1950's. If the history and nightly piano doesn't get you, the stiff cocktails, steak, and seafood surely will. Hours: Monday - Thursday (11am - Midnight) Friday - Saturday (11am - 1:30am) Sunday (4pm - 1:30am)
Imig's Kitchen & Bar
Loved by locals and guest alike, Imig's serves up a modern, casual and honest twist on breakfast and brunch. The relaxed and open setting gives guests the perfect space to gather daily for breakfast, brunch (or both, after all you're on vacation) or a mid-day custom cocktail overlooking the historic Weissmuller Pool. Hours: Everyday (7am - 3pm)

Funky but fun hotel

This may have been one of the funkiest places we have stayed. We had a huge room with no place to sit. Just a small desk with one chair, and three of us in the room. A small refrigerator would have been great. Room service was quite inconsistent, and one day just did not show up, despite request. Internet connection was non-existent, despite calls to an outside vendor, and finally a front desk person acknowledged that this is no good when free internet, is advertised so she comped breakfast for three. Nice. Our room was on a busy corner so very noisy, but location was very close to freeways so very convenient. Two large pool-side parties, July 3 and 4th were noisy, but ended at five, pm, allowing families to re-convene at the pool. Breakfast at the 46 restaurant was very good. We ate there 3 times. Dinner at the Red Fox was as funky a setting as the Hotel, but quite good. If you are not looking for luxurious surroundings, and free breakfast I would recommend it.

Always Comfortable & Convenient

I have stayed at the Lafayette several times, mainly because it is so convenient to the family that I visit in San Diego. Check in process is quick, staff is friendly, rooms are spacious and comfortable. I occasionally have a drink there in the bright, cheery lobby, but haven't used the restaurant. Parking can be somewhat of a challenge unless you get a pass for the underground garage. The neighborhood on El Cajon Blvd is a bit sketchy, so I don't feel comfortable walking alone at night time, but during the day it's fine.

Good Choice

I was staying the night in San Diego. The Lafayette hotel turned out to be a great option. Considering how fast things can add up in SD the Lafayette was first a price conscious choice. From what I read at the time it was recently remodeled or renovated so it seemed like a good choice. It turned out it was a great choice. It has a real welcoming feel with tons of charm, real character. You feel like you're in your own little world. They have fun things scheduled each day like live bands performing or a movie by the pool. Also there's no charge for parking. Over all it was a great stay. The staff I encountered was helpful, happy and all around nice. I wouldn't compare it to the someplace like the Bellagio or anything super fancy but definitley for the money you get more than you think at the Lafayette. I certainly will recommend it to any friends or family that wish to go to San Diego.

Entertainment tip: In Hotel

If you have daytime activities planned out but still wish to do something other than stay coupes up in a room then the Lafayette has that as well. I stayed overnight on a Thursday and they had a movie playing on a big projector screen by the pool. They had a calendar with events and live bands were among the things planned each day. Simple but fun enough.

DO NOT BELIEVE!!!!

I don't know where to begin! The night just kept getting worse and worse. While driving to the hotel I thought the scenery would get nicer,as the hotel looked extremely nice from the outside, however nothing changed. Once we got to the hotel, a $100 deposit was then requested. This was not informed to us when we called the hotel to book our nights. We walked into our room and we could hear guests that were accross the hall!!!. Not to mention when we got into the room, the room DID NOT LOOK ANYTHING SIMILAR TO THOSE PICTURES. The tile in the restroom was dirty and completely filled with black marks. My sister also noticed a hair on the toliet seat and we had a hard time from there. The room smelled like feet and smoke. We had to cancel our second night! The customer service was horrible. They promised to match a rate, and as of now they (manager) haven't called us for this. It is a complere joke and a rip off! PLEASE BE ADVISE AND DO NOT BOOK HERE. IT IS FALSE ADVERTISEMENT!!!

Nice touches but overpriced

Nice touches from the era, a nice lobby, and excellent location, but overpriced for what you get. I've had much better hotels for much less money. The elevator wasn't working that night or the next day, so we were upgraded to a big room with a great king-sized bed and a really nice living room area. However, the bathroom was utilitarian with only a shower stall that needed a glass enclosure because water got all over the bathroom floor.

lafayette

The good: Great onsite bar and resturant. Clean quiet room. Very close to MCRD for Marine Graduation. Free parking big enough for a full size 4 door truck. Very cool ethiopian resturant close by. The Bad: The room phone was dead, and never fixed. No ice machine on the 2nd floor. it was outside. No closet, hangers or hook in the room.. kind of weird. The wireless internet was so slow as to be useless.
