Great hotel, excellent staff
A bunch of us girls stayed at Hotel Solamar for a bachelorette party. We wanted to have a pool day, then a night out in the Gaslamp. We arrived on a Saturday around 2pm and the pool area was rockin! Great DJ, cool crowd. This room was spectacular and absolutely perfect for what we needed. Only 3 of us were actually sleeping there but there was 12 of us partying it up. The Choregrapher Suite is HUUUGE. It did not have any beds and the bathroom was small but it was perfect for a party. It had a huge dining room table, a large living room setup with a pull out queen bed plus they gave us a rollaway bed. The kitchenette was a good size -- full sink, fridge and bar countertop perfect for mixing up cocktails. This hotel isn't for families and there was 3 other bachelorette parties that weekend. There's a hip bar around the pool that I've been too several times (I'm from San Diego) called J'Six Bar. Very cool. Oh, we got back from the bars around 3am and although we thought we were quiet, apparanlt someone didn't agree so we got the knock on the door and were asked to keep it down or else our guests would have to leave. We went to bed. At 5:30 am I got a phone call from an old man yelling at me to wake up and that we had kept him up all night. So rude.

This was a great location and the staff was a ton of fun!! When we arrived the front desk clerk told us about a 'Hula-Hoop' contest... 2 mnute and score a free room upgrade.... So my boyfriend gave it a whirl, he only lasted 2 seconds, but we still got the upgrade for the effort!!! It was an AWESOME room and a great time!!

Awesome hotel
We chose this Hotel Solamar for our 3 day road trip up to San Diego for some family fun. This place is great for everything. Great location - <2 blocks from Padres PETCO stadium, shopping, great dining. Although the fitness area is small, there's not much of a need for it with the San Diego weather. Despite being (overly) dog friendly, the rooms, facilities, and outdoor surroundings were very clean. The restaurant was outstanding, especially when compared to other hotel - affiliated dining establishments. The hotel staff were great. Would've been nice to have complimentary or reduced - priced parking for hotel patrons. Its a bit pricey, but no more so than any other hotel in the area. Will be back for sure.

Awesome getaway
This beautiful hotel is located in the Gaslamp Quarter of San Diego has complimentary coffee and tea in the morning as well as complementary wines and sangria in the afternoon. The staff was exceeding friendly and helpful. They were knowledgeable about attractions in the area and offered suggestions for ethnic restaurants. The Valet parking was quick and friendly. Located within walking distance of shopping and restaurants, trolley lines, the convention center, Petco Park and beautiful San Diego Bay. The pool is small but perfect for cooling off while enjoying your favorite beverage. Not the best for lap swimming. The pool is located outside on the roof of the 4th floor with a bar and several options for relaxing in sun or shade. The environment is probably not the best for small children due to the bar atmosphere.

A fabulous Find
The location in the Gaslamp District was ideal! No need for a car. However, if you do have a car, I suggest parking it at the parking lot across the street from the hotel for $15.00/night instead of paying the pricey $35.00/night at the hotel. This hotel has a very good 'feel' about it - Totally fantastic decor - hip, cool, sophisticated casual. Fourth floor level with outside pool, cabanas, firepits, food and bar with glowing colored lights. Complimentary coffee/tea hour in the mornings, icecream treats in the afternoon and wine from 5-6pm! Loved it, loved it. Request any room ending in "10" will give you a larger room, about extra 90 sq feet of sitting space. Will definitely seek out other Kimpton Hotels.

Best location in town
It was easy to enjoy the entire San Diego area with the Solamar as a home base. The hotel staff was very helpful and dining at JSIx was a great experience. The pool is small but adequate and the rooftop bar is a SanDiego hotspot.
