Located in the heart of Little Italy, you've found a quaint European hotel. Views of the harbor, restaurants, galleries, antique shops and shopping abound. Experience the lively coastal feel and uncover the modern yet true to European surprises that are a departure from the expected fare. To step through the doors of the Porto Vista Hotel is to be pleasantly surprised. You've found it - a refreshingly unique departure from the usual downtown San Diego boutique hotel. Through the glass wall fade, a charming stretch of Little Italy shops gently slopes down to San Diego Harbor. The intimate lobby is energetic without trying too hard. A trio of plasma flat screens greets you with refreshing imagery, setting the stage for a unique experience. And maybe it's the snazzy, mid 60s Mediterranean decor or the stylish neighborhood crowd sipping cocktails on the 4th floor restaurant terrace. Our Little Italy San Diego hotel is that kind of place. Valet parket is available for $25.00 per night. Shuttle service is available to and from the hotel to the Airport, Convention Center and the Cruise Dock. A $5 charge per adult each way will apply.

Pets are accepted - one per room up to 40 pounds. A non-refundable pet fee of $75 + tax will apply per stay.

A valid credit card is required at check in for incidental charges to establish credit. We do not accept cash or pre-paid cards.

Wknd getaway

The staff was very nice there. The restaurant on the 4th floor has a beautiful view over looking the waters of San Diego. The drinks that were made were great. The shuttle driver who took us to the Dodgers vs Padres game was very nice and had a good sense of humor. I will definitely stay again at Porto Vista.

Night in Little Italy

From the minute we arrived the staff was the best I have ever experienced, and we travel at least once a year! We had a balcony room with a peak a boo view of the water. Would of been nice if it had a chair out on the balcony. Easy to walk around little Italy, with wonderful places to eat. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable. Also was nice to have frig and microwave in the room. Would stay again.

Quick Getaway

My girlfriend and I wanted to get out of town for the weekend and decided to go to San Diego to relax and visit the zoo. This hotel seemed to be the best option in terms of price and location and it was. The hotel and the area are great, very nice to walk around and it's pretty close to the zoo as well. Overall a very good experience for a short weekend trip

OK

Good, but we did not like the clogged bathroom sink, no tops on the bathroom to put our things. Toilet paper holder is breaking off. Also, they charged me for failed attempts to make long distance calls. They also charge for the hotel shuttle to the airport. It feels like they just want to nickel and dime you for everything. There are just so many hotels that if I ever go again to San Diego, It will be worth it to use another hotel.

Dining tip: Long walk from hotel

20 minute walk to Ralph's Supermarket to get groceries so that you can get an excellent salad or other deli things to take to your room so that the Gaslamp alligator restaurantscan't eat up all your dough with their expensive menus and mandatory 15% tips.

Porto Vista Hotel Stay

This hotel is a remodeled Hotel 8. They did a rather good job re-styling it, but the room was small and the bathroom needed some updating (the shower head was full of water calcium buildup and had a hole in it). The staff including the valet personnel, were incredibly nice, very helpful and professional. Location is great, right near I-5, car rental, airport and near Little Italy. Unfortunately, the location gives way to younger people partying in Little Italy. My first two nights were wonderful, but the last night, the room beside me decided to party all night long. They woke me up at 12:30 a.m. and were still going strong at 2 a.m. I finally, had to call the front desk, who immediately sent a security guard. They did not listen to the guard and were still going strong when I had to get up at 3:30 a.m. for my flight - I only had two hours sleep due to these thoughtless, foul-mouthed, drunken people. Ultimately, this is not the hotel's fault, but I wish the security guard would have been more focused on respect of the other guests.

Not As Good As It Gets

I was in San Diego for a wedding and stayed at Porta Vista based on the couple's recommendation. I'm pretty sure this was based on the hotel's location, which was close to an assortment of restaurants, shopping centers, etc. The website is mis-leading as to how the rooms and layout of the facility is structured (think Motel 6). There isn't a lobby surrounding the rooms. Step through the door and you're immediately outside. Although the bathroom was immaculate, the desk, chairs, and rugs were in need of TLC. I ended up moving 3 times before "settling". The staff was very accommdating, but obviously could only work with what they had. Lastly, the "free" continental breakfast was not adequate in portion size. In order to be full, one would have to "buy" additional items.

Shopping tip: Short drive from hotel

A couple of malls were a short walk or drive away. A daily Farmers' market (except Sunday if I recall correctly) was just a few blocks away.
