Lafayette Hotel and Suites

Not top if the line, but an a+ for the price! Great service with great smiles and loved the location, not to mention its history.

went to San Diego to see ball game at Petco Park. Hotel staff nice the place was under renovation, so that was a minus. the red fox restaurant was very nice. would go there again. thanks

When checking into The Hotel Lafayette, the front staff did not have our [...]reservation on file. They were rude and unhelpful.[...]The trip was already off to a rocky start. Once we checked into our room, we found two beds, instead of the king we had booked. Our room was also located right in front of a scaffolding project, in fact, the entire hotel was under renovation. The paint fumes were almost unbearable. I would definitely not recommend this hotel to other potential guests.

Hotel was very clean. Very cheap for the quality of service andthe hotel had a very rich history which they should probably advertise more. The hotel was under renovation while we were there which was a little bit of an annoyanc. The hotel was very close to balboa park where the zoo and various museums are located making it very easy to enjoy our stay. We stayed in a smaller room but it was still a very pleasureable expeirence for us both. We both highly recomend this hotel.

After hearing pretty good remarks about this hotel, my boyfriend and I decided to book a room for two nights during Memorial Day weekend. We heard from friends and also from Yelp reviews, that it's a popular and fun place to stay. We also read reviews that they were currently going through renovations, but didn't realize how bad the non-renovated rooms were. I mean don't mind dated furniture or amenities, but this room was absolutely disgusting. It smelled of stale smoke, which is ironic, since we had to sign an agreement stating that we understood the no smoking policy inside hotel rooms at check-in. There were stains and dust everywhere. I'd be afraid to see what was underneath the bed and cringe at the thought. To be honest, I did not want to touch anything in that room! We tried to stick it out thinking "you get what you pay for", but this place was unacceptable. I felt so dirty being in the room. We eventually decided to cancel our stay here. The front desk told they would only refund us for the second night stay and not the first. I don't understand how our room (Room 606!) could have passed public health standards in the first place. Just as I stated in the Review Title, I would have rather stayed at a Motel 6. At least I know what I'm getting there!

Overall the hotel was ok. I was little hesitant at first after I read the reviews. We stayed in San Diego for three days and visited a theme park each day. Basically was looking for reasonable prices, free breakfast, wi-fi and pool access for the kids. Lafayette had everything I was looking for. It was close to parks, downtown and beaches. Although its not in the greatest side of San Diego. We had no problems besides the remodeling inconvenience. The few staff we saw were polite...be ready to carry your own bags, no security although there is secure undergroud parking. Overall it was ok, wouldn't mind using it one more time.

Pretty good hotel Bad TV but renovated room is good I prefer old room because micro wave and refrigerator . It was old but big space Parking , Internet were free!! After renovation it will be better.

We visited during Memorial weekend and the hotel was a great price for the location. We ended up getting a really big room on the end. It was huge; however, I saw some of the rooms that had two beds and they looked tiny so we may have just gotten lucky!

We really didn't stay at the hotel we went out and explored but right now its under renovations so its a little messy
