In addition to an impressive guest list, several prominent local figures have been permanent residents, including clothier Bill Solof, restaurateur Ray Lubach and San Diego Padres manager Lefty O'Doul.
Despite extensive renovations in 2009 and 2010, much of Lafayette's historic grandeur still exists today. One highlight of the San Diego property is the original, Olympic-sized Terrazzo-tile pool. Guests and locals flock to the Red Fox Room & Piano Bar, which still hosts nightly entertainment. Dining
- Red Fox Steak House
- The quintessential steakhouse that doesn't just reach for the lounge vibe, it helped define it. The entire interior was shipped to the United States for blonde cinema actress, Marion Davies, and was dismantled (again!) and installed at the Lafayette during the 1950's. If the history and nightly piano doesn't get you, the stiff cocktails, steak, and seafood surely will. Hours: Monday - Thursday (11am - Midnight) Friday - Saturday (11am - 1:30am) Sunday (4pm - 1:30am)
- Imig's Kitchen & Bar
- Loved by locals and guest alike, Imig's serves up a modern, casual and honest twist on breakfast and brunch. The relaxed and open setting gives guests the perfect space to gather daily for breakfast, brunch (or both, after all you're on vacation) or a mid-day custom cocktail overlooking the historic Weissmuller Pool. Hours: Everyday (7am - 3pm)
- North Park Neighborhood Restaurants
- Quickly becoming nationally recognized for it's culinary diversity and appreciation for craft beer, the neighborhood offers Lafayette guests an incredible opportunity for food exploration. We encourage you to dine with us once (ok, maybe twice) and then experience the local cuisine within our wonderful neighborhood! Our front desk can assist with recommendations and reservations.

More rundown than historic.
The only positive thing I can say about this hotel is that it was located near downtown San Diego. The hotel may be "historic", being built in the late 1940's, but it has not been kept up. Our room, while spacious, was poorly maintained, with peeling paint, antiquated amenities, dirty worn out furniture and appointments. It was especially substandard for the price charged. Our room was not ready when we tried to check in at 4:30 pm (3:00 pm was the stated "check in time") and we had to sit and wait until 5:00 pm to get access to our room. The "breakfast" was minimal (bagels, cereal and waffles), served in a sterile room with no windows. All in all, we will never go back.

Not a family hotel during day
We first checked in it was fine . I had to leave and left my wife and daughters at the pool it was packed with gay men and women playing footsie with each other I shortened our stay to four days . The housekeeping was also bad their were four of us and would only leave one towel and facecloth I even had to ask the front desk for toilet paper. Lastly they are remodeling and parking is bad we picked up a nail and had to repair a tire on the rental

Unexpected Neighborhood
We arrived late at night, and the neighborhood didn't feel very safe, especially for two single girls. Once inside the hotel, we felt secure and I was relieved to find out they had underground parking. We didn't get to see the hotel much during the day as we left very early the next morning, but the accommodations were quite comfortable, clean, and spacious.

The good , the bad , and the ugly
The room was not what I expected. It did not have a refrijerador or microway or coffee pot , like it show in the picture when we booked. I went and talk to the manager and there reply was that they are remodoling to be old fashion like it was before, they said that [...]was the only companey that have not take the old picture from your page. Olson some of the attendence were rude especially Lady name [...], rude at breckfast time.

very pleasant staff
It would have been nice to have a little in house store with inexpensive bathing suits, toothpaste, shampoo, gum, or little things that you may have forgotten. Or maybe a little shuttle that could go to the valley mall to buy those things. A taxi costs $15 to and $15 dollars from so I didn't have a bathing suit to try out the beautiful pool.

The good, the bad, and the really ugly
Good: The service people are very kind and hard workers. Bad: Bathrooms without exhaust fan, no swimming pool for kids. Some people at front desk are not honest. Really Ugly: in the hotel from 12pm to 6pm come many people from outside (no hotel guests) to drink alcohol sold by hotel staff (I guess) around the swimming pool and is not good, specially if you have kids

Not the same Lafayette
We were in San Diego to get away for a few days, sit on the beach, and take in some of the local fare. We have stayed at the Lafayette several times over the last 10 years and were surprised that this hotel was taken over by new management and we noticed that some things about this hotel were immediately different. First, the breakfast is quite different. Previously there was a full breakfast available and now there is some cereal, bagels, and waffles with coffee and juice. This is a far cry from what this hotel used to offer and one of the things that kept us coming back to this hotel. Our room could have used a mirror outside of the bathroom, we had to get ready to go for the day one person at a time when we normally have a grooming area right outside of the bathroom. The shower varied in temperature from scalding hot to freezing cold the entire time we were in it. One positive is that the new hotel owners opened up the parking under the hotel, it was nice to be able to park and not worry about the vehicle being parked outside of the hotel.

Take a left on Texas and it will take you right to I8, GPS will normally take you to Washington Ave. It is easier and quicker to shoot down the hill and get on the 8.

Good Location--Service lacking
The hotel did not have our reservation when we arrived. We had to wait about an hour for them to figure it out. We asked for a blanket--never got it. Coffee empty in the lobby--had to wait and wait--it never came. Staff did not know general tourist information like when Sea World opened. We were told to call the number on the brochure to find out. Our room was clean and comfortable. However we had to go find our own cups for water. The first night there was no hot water. It was on the low end of any hotel we have ever stayed in.
