Howard Johnson Inn San Diego Hotel Circle

This hotel was terrible. We checked in to find our ceiling leaking in two different places. The door wasn't hung right, so who knows what could have walked in! We tried calling the desk, but the phone didn't work. The plug had been pulled off the phone cord. They gave us another room. There were kids playing in the pool and kids playing football in the parking lot way too late at night.

Worst hotel I have ever stayed in. will not be staying there again. Staff not friendly, rooms smelt like pot and shower had mold.

as we pull up this hotel looked like it was from a scary movie.[...]the staff was not the happiest of people, and i had to go to the nearest retail store to buy sheets for the dirty bed we were giving.

I stay in 75 to 100 similarly priced hotel rooms each year, this was by far the worst experience that I have had. There were gaps in the door that let all of the freeway noise in and left security a question in the back of your mind. Additionally, there were holes in the bedspread, mold in the shower, and there was not even a glass for a drink of water. Given the conditions, it was a sleepless night. The "breakfast" also had room for improvement as it had no hot items. I would recommend staying anyplace else while traveling in San Diego.

Good location and inexpensive, plus the continental breakfast. Those are the good things. Now, the bad: -motion sensor lights in the room kept turning on in the middle of the night -hotel is ON FREEWAY and there it sounds like it. You can hear all of the freeway noise from these very uninsulated rooms. I will not be staying here again. It was actually quieter in the rental car while I was ON the freeway than in this room. NOT recommended.

Very old, don't listen to the good reviews. The breakfast is a joke! No waffles, old pastries. I would never stay here again. I wouldn't even have given this hotel the one star but i could not leave it blank. The pool was in a corner with no sun facing it, this hotel is extremely old and run down.

Room was next to freeway but the double-pain windows knocked down most of the noise, but it was still quite noisy. The facility is old and tired and the room looks it. My blanket was some synthetic rubber-like material that was torn and had what looked like cigarette holes in it. The room was non-smoking and there was no smoke odor. My wife said the WiFi signal was weak and intermittent and therefore of no use. The carpet felt somewhat sticky to my bare feet, so I wore socks or shoes. No evidence of bed bugs! Plenty of shopping nearby and Old Town is just down the road a couple of miles. Fridge was super cold, forming ice on our bottled water. Didn't try the microwave. We won't stay at another Howard Johnson's.

It was the worst stay ever in my life. The hotel looks it is going to collapse any minute. The elevator was so dirty , did not feel like putting my bags on the floor, corridor floor was wavy and about 3 feet to walk. Every time I tried to go somewhere the maid carts blocked the way and there was no other way to go. Room smelled bad, the door had a 1 cm gap between the door and the frame, curtains were torn, couch was torn,,,,,do i need to go on? Parking horrible....so tight that a lot of people took 2 spaces and others then had to wing it....rude front service person!!

My room had problems after a some rain fell thru the night. The next morning my room and the room next door both had the bathroom sinks backup and finally overflow. The carpet under the sink never dried up during my stay. The staff could not over me another room becayse the cliamed there were no more non-smoking rooms available. Also, one morning I had a "DO NOT DISTURB" on my door because housekeeping comes by to early. When I left for the day, I took off the sign. Yet, I came back later in the day, the room had not been made up. When I called the front desk , housekeeping left for the day.

The worst part of an otherwise great San Diego visit. On almost every trip, something has to go wrong, not everything can be great. HoJo, was the downside of this trip. Unfortunately, we read the reviews containing certain concerns after we committed to stay at the HoJo Express on Hotel Circle in San Diego. But, being optimistic by nature, I thought many of the reviews were exaggerations. I was wrong, they were accurate! Yes, the bed bugs have been confirmed, but apparently the hotel has done little to correct the issue! Knowing how to assess for the critters, I pulled back the bedding and found droppings in the seems along the head of the mattress and upper sides. More importantly, the mattress had small tell tale blood stains from active feeding activities! Illicit activities were present IN BROAD DAY LIGHT right there in the hotel parking lot; activities that no traveler would willing expose their family to. This of course is not the hotel's fault per se, but the hotel most definitely enables it. The upper level railings are unstable and UNSAFE; so much so that an adult could completely dislodge them from place with a firm shove or kick. If you were to trip and use the railing to save your fall; you are likely to land in the parking lot four stories below! Check in was followed by check out some fifteen minutes later. When told of the bed bugs as premise for leaving, there was no surprise displayed by the (at best) marginally helpful staff who was more concerned about leaving when their shift was over than with resolving the issue at hand. THIS IS NO PLACE FOR A FAMILY TO STAY! There is a reason that this hotel is last to fill on Hotel Circle. Do yourself and your family a huge favor and remove this hazard of a hotel from your travel option list. Take the extra drive elsewhere, spend the extra money to stay at a better facility, but by all means... KEEP YOUR FAMILY AWAY! My only regret; I did not take pictures and video to share in this review to show just how bad this place actually is!
