Hotels in San Diego
San Diego, California, is one of the loveliest destinations in the United States. Water sports, especially boating, fishing and surfing, are key activities in the area, and visitors often make stops at SeaWorld, the San Diego Zoo and the cliffside La Jolla Cove. The zoo maintains a wild animal park one hour outside the city, and world-class horse racing can be seen in Del Mar, which is located 15 minutes to the north. San Diego is also a popular base point for travel to Orange County, Los Angeles, Palm Springs and Baja, Mexico.
San Diego International Airport (SAN) is conveniently located on the downtown harbor, and the city is also served by train service from Los Angeles. The public bus system, San Diego Metropolitan Transit System, serves much of San Diego County, and visitors can ride trolleys in the Gaslamp Quarter, an historic district of the city.
Hints and tips
San Diego boasts a sunny, pleasant climate all year round, with average temperatures ranging from 60-80 degrees Fahrenheit. It can be breezy on the shore at night, so layered dressing is recommended. Since the city has heavy Asian and Spanish influences, there are plenty of unique dining options in the city ranging from inexpensive fish taco stands in laid-back Ocean Beach, to renowned high-end fusion restaurants in upscale La Jolla.
