I like the location of this hotel. It is very close to the downtown area making it a short drive to seeing the downtown sites and shopping. The check in/out was fast and the staff was helpful. The rooms were clean and neat but even with the reviews, the rooms still stink on initial arrival, I brought some Air freshener spray with me and it solved the problem. Biggest issue I had with this property was with the irritations of other clients. In the 2 day stay, I had some college kids partying at 3am on a picnic table that for some reason was outside my window, the next day there was a kids soccer team practicing in the parking lot and kicking balls into my car and I think I had horse in the room above me because it was stomping. If you can put up with this kind of stuff for a nice room at a reasonable cost, this may work out for you.

Short drive from hotel
Bring your gps and bring up the attractions and shopping, you will find you are close to many of them at this property. Also, the traffic in downtown Sacramento is lite on the weekends making it easy to get around. Maybe bring your bike, there are bike paths that run along the river.

Great stay!
This is my first review ever. This hotel was clean, friendly, and all the amenities you would need for a stay. I don't understand why this hotel has only three stars. It is worthy of much more. Highly recommend this hotel to anyone needing a place to stay in Sacramento!

Top Notch Staff, Super Clean, Comfortable Beds
I've stayed a few places around old town Sacramento, but none I've found can match the service at the Governor's Inn. The staff, Genetta, Hope, Heiner, Michael, George, Sarah, Pang, and Toni (the manager#, each really seem to have a real sense of ownership for the place and for their customers. Rooms are large and super clean with high quality furnishings. Great free shuttle to and from the airport #only 15 minutes away). The only downside is the location, which isn't the fault of this hotel, but of the mayor who encourages transients to migrate to Sacramento. The hotel does a great job of keeping them out, but it does look a bit like "The Night of the Living Dead" as night approaches. Stay inside after dark and you are fine. Hotel is highly recommend

Nightlife tip:
Short walk from hotel
Tons of transients and drunken homeless wondering around the streets near to this hotel. You are safe on the grounds and in the hotel, but stay away from the "night life" that meanders around like a bunch of zombies.

My Experience of Learning
Well except for the fact that I didn't know that shuttle service began at 6:30AM when the very reason for staying at the Governor's Inn was to catch a 6AM flight. The cab cost was nearly $35. I was shocked to say the least, and I didn't get my wake-up call and my cell phone didn't function. However, since I was all set to go when the cab came at 5:45AM I got a call and was quickly there. The lines at the airport also shocked me. Sacramento has surely grown since I left California many years ago as a Native! But the room was very nice as was the front desk woman who checked me in. I learned a valuable lesson.

Relaxing stay
Clean and quiet, nice after a long day in the field. Reliable internet and good selection of TV stations. Left before continental breakfast was served. Comparable to previous stays and better than others in the area for a similar value. Highly recommended despite the less than ideal location.

Nice hotel, amazing price
This hotel is handy to I-5, quiet, clean, secure, and priced much lower than other Sacramento hotels of comparable quality. The staff were very friendly. I plan to stay at this hotel every time I stay in Sacramento.

Excellent Hotel with Fantastic Staff
Have stayed at hundreds of hotels where I paid 2 to 3 times as much and had nowhere near the positive experience as I had at the Governor's Inn Hotel. Room was spotless and well maintained. A/C was divine, got cool fast and stayed that way the whole time there. While location was right off freeway, being right next door to the police station ensured a safe and secure stay. Free continental breakfast included make your own waffles, bagels, fruit, yogurt, donuts and cereal. You cannot go wrong at these rates for a place that includes a pool and hot tub that were in great condition. We were visiting relatives and didn't spend a ton of time at the hotel anyway but all I can say is OUTSTANDING JOB - Governor's Inn!!!

Short drive from hotel
Quick drive or a long walk up the river walk up to Old Sacramento. A definite "must see" if visiting the first time.
