A few Minor adjustments needed, great location

Check-in:Our reservations was lost but we pulled it up on our phone just as they found it, took a bit of time, they had to scramble to find a room. Once a manager got involved she was great and took care of everything. Room: The room was beautiful and they sent a bottle of very nice wine to make up for the check in issue, with nice glasses and an ice bucket. Partial ocean view was great, overlooking pool and restaurant but you still see about half ocean. Bed: Sheets were very crispy, we prefer soft sheets. Pillows were so full/high that they were almost impossible to sleep on, we should have called the desk but did not get a good nights sleep. Restaurant: The eggs and coffee were good, potatoes WAY too salty, waiter was rushed and not very cordial. View was great. Pool: It is not locked to the outside world so we got the feeling it was a neighborhood hang out, no staff there in the morning, we had to track down towels in the hotel. Jacuzzi was not hot enough and lots of kids in it. Lobby: Really pretty, nice atmosphere, fireplace, comfortable furniture, areas to hang out and chat, nice store, responsive bell staff. Staff: Hit or miss. Upon check out we were charged for a restaurant meal we did not have, took a long time to correct (they comped our water which was nice) and then we were asked to pay a facility fee, finally figured out it was on the confirmation receipt but at the time they were not able to explain it other than "that's why we don't recommend using outside websites, they have hidden fees". I was totally ok paying the fee and it wasn't hidden but they should know what it is and not discourage people from using their partners. Overall: They made some mistakes and tried to compensate for them and they need to lock the pool and do some staff training to earn the 4 star rating but it is a gorgeous location and the rooms and lobby are beautiful. Until then, find a cheeper room with same view and visit the restaurant and pool.

Good location, hotel, overwhelmed

Everything was nice with exception of dinner taking almost 2 hours and some strange rules on breakfast vs brunch. With dinner the kitchen was overwhelmed by a wedding (which you'd think they'd have done this before) and it took 90 minutes just to get some salads and cheese plates (the manager was kind enough to give us dessert). If you want breakfast on sunday's you need to go before 10AM. Otherwise they want to push you into the $29 brunch with unlimited mimosas - which if you have are pregnant or have a long drive -- doesn't really align with your day. If you show up before 10AM you basically can get the brunch for $14 without the booze, but they wont' sell you that after 10AM. The accommodations were nice!

My husband and I give it 3 1/2 stars

The hotel is very nice the first night we stayed in a partial ocean view king room. The room was very nice we had a balcony and a flat screen ordinary bathroom. The second night we stayed in an oceanfront king WOW now I'm impressed. The sliding doors open huge to such a beautiful view of the ocean, big balcony, a deep jacuzzi tub the room seemed double the size of the night before. Needless to say we were very happy in that room. It is $100. more expensive though so that hurts, but I have no regrets. I'd would recommend to friends and family.

Money-saving tip: Long walk from hotel

Some of our best times were walking whether along the beach or its many beach trails. We also found an art festival at a park near the beach that was fun.

Excellent first trip to Ca

The staff at this hotel is open, friendly, available. Always a pleasant greeting. Enjoyed the great views at The Cliffs, even from our partial ocean view room. The elevated pool and fireplace are great, best of all the surrounding resorts, hotels, etc. Great easy access to Avila and Pismo beaches. Dolphins, seals, and sea lions! Did not enjoy the steep climb back up from the beach at the hotel nor LAX airport. Wonderful trip. Thanks
