Polynesian-themed hotel with mountain views in Palm Springs
Caliente Tropics Resort is all about fun, relaxation and comfort. The hotel is one of the finest remaining examples of the Tiki and Polynesian-themed Palm Springs hotels built in the 1960s, and has hosted celebrities such as Elvis and Frank Sinatra. Updated for the 21st century with modern amenities like free Wi-Fi, Caliente Tropics Resort retains the zesty feel of a Tiki lounge, while extending luxury and convenience to guests. Basic semi renovated motel. Went with very low expectations based on the sub $50/night price. Pleasantly surprised. Friendly staff!

Nice spot

Noisy. Not staying here again.
Needed a place to stay for one night. Room amenities were old. Refrigerator was making weird noise all night. Walls were so thin that I could clearly hear my neighbors' conversation in the room next to mine. Beds were comfortable but with so much noise couldn't get any sleep anyway.

A very pleasant surprise
I arrived fully expecting a typical budget hotel experience, but found much better. Don't get me wrong, this hotel dates to the early 60's heyday of rat pack-era Palm Springs and the outside Polynesian kitch factor is high(think Bali Hai/South Pacific meets motel), but the room was clean and quite nice, and even featured full granite shower and bathroom counters. I only saw the pool area from a distance but it looked similarly Polynesian in theme and pleasant. In many ways this hotel provides what many might seek in a Palm Springs area boutique hotel; retro-chic hotel with a more modern room treatment. I would happily come again.

Not There Yet
Staff absent from front desk when I called a couple of times. They are making a comeback, as they said, but they're not there yet. Still, the price was right. Some will not like that the tv sets are old school, but I was not there to watch tv. It was quiet, less than half full. The ice machine nearest my room was broken, so had to walk a fair distance to get ice. Message blinker blinked all the while i was there but no message. Notified desk, but it did not get fixed.

We have always stayed here!
Only one dissapointment....the pool area is not as fun as usual. They don't have a bar or restaurant by the pool right now. So it's very quite...no music either. We have always stayed here when we have come to PS and we have had the best time. We really were looking forward to fun pool time and that was a bummer! Hopefully they will get it up and running soon.

Overnite Visit
The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms can use a upgrade, replace tube tv's with small flat screen and maybe recover sitting chair with a bright color. Had to use chair to reach air conditioner to change temperature and air conditioner had thick amt of dust on it so screen filters probably need to be replaced or cleaned. The bed was comfortable the shower was big and the room was clean overall and nice to have a fridge in the room.
