Funky, edgy decor creates a distinctive look, and rooms combine well-worn leather couches with luxurious bedding, expertly melding gritty, 60s-type furnishings with modern amenities. Just south of downtown Palm Springs and close to the mountains, Ace Hotel and Swim Club gives a nod toward the coolness of the past, in a contemporary setting.

Rooms

Ace Hotel and Swim Club rooms boast eye-catching, distinctive details. Screens around the beds feature 1960s-era photos tacked up with binder clips. Chairs seem rescued from old schoolhouses or offices. Canvas drapes are pinned back to reveal patio spaces, giving rooms the feel of a safari tent. The effect is a charming, retro atmosphere that feels comfortable and welcoming. Suites offer separate living areas and some feature vinyl record players in the room.

Features

Ace Hotel and Swim Club features an old, restored diner called King's Highway that offers traditional American favorites. Chefs use local, seasonal and organic ingredients whenever possible and the meats are sustainably raised. The Amigo Room bar serves classic and creative cocktails using fresh juices and house-made mixers.

Guests can also borrow one of the hotel's Weber grills for a room's private patio or terrace. The hotel offers communal outdoor hearths if guests want to mingle and make new friends while preparing their outdoor feasts.

The Feel Good Spa at Ace Hotel and Swim Club provides simple, practical treatments geared toward boosting health and relaxation while treating the senses to a luxurious experience. The spa focuses on using natural, organic ingredients and offers purifying clay masks, body scrubs, hot stone massage, deep tissue massage, cooling skin treatments and facials. The extensive pool area offers another opportunity to relax and recharge.

Ace Hotel and Swim Club is close to numerous activities in the area. The Smoke Tree Stables offers horseback riding by the hour, while Indian Canyons Golf boasts two semi-private, championship courses. Also close is the Palm Springs Tennis Club.

Dining

Amigo Bar
There is the original old ranch-hand bar, the Amigo Room, which we have restored to its high/low glory and we have added an old ice cream truck- the Short Bus- as our poolside bar. The Trailer bar- an old caravan with graphics by the Date Farmers- will roll up to the Commune for events. Unlike typical Palm Springs bars, we emphasize quality micro-distilleries and fresh mixing ingredients like real, squeezed juices, infusions, and homemade syrups.
King's Highway Restaurant
We took the old Denny's restaurant on the property and unearthed a cool terrazzo floor, sandblasted the flagstone walls and recovered the booths in saddle leather. The food redefines roadside diner fare as part of an American peasant food tradition-rustic, direct, resourceful, sensuous, and social. The focus will be on fresh, organic, and local ingredients that expand the stereotypical view of Palm Springs to create a regional cuisine grounded in a sense of place. We understand that food is first and foremost a series of relationships not only in the eating but in the preparing and the sourcing. We believe that cooking should always be inspired but never pretentious and that food should be accessible but not ordinary. In feeling, we imagine this experience like the most amazing backyard barbeque you've ever been to.

Fun relaxng spring break

We spent most of our 3 day, 2 night trip by the pool, and it was exactly what we needed for our getaway! The hotel has bikes to borrow for a 2 hour period, so my boyfriend and I went on a nice morning ride to check out the mountain views and the vacation homes nearby. The restaurant was the usual... pricy, not so great, but gets the job done for a lazy meal poolside. Also the drinks are the usual $10-12, but I didn't mind that. My one complaint is that there were a lot of kids! This hotel is really family friendly, but that discouraged me from getting in the pool. I still plan on returning next year!

Only stay here if you're in your 20's looking for a loud party scene

Great location, nice decor, poolside lounging was nice. But not a place to go for a recharging getaway weekend- be prepared for large groups partying above, below or next door. Restaurant is very underwhelming- everything sounds much better on the menu than it tastes in reality, and the staff is uninterested. Probably fine if your expectations are calibrated & you're in the target demographic of hard-partying twentysomething.

Two young adults and a baby

My husband and I loved the ace. We got a room with a patio garden which was key for extra space for our little baby. We had fantastic meals at the Kings Highway restaurant and LOVED the pool. Our only complaint was that the smaller pool was closed during our entire stay due to special events and the events were pretty noisy with loud music and I had to ask for ear plugs one night.

Great place..A little rowdy on weekends

We were there on a Thursday-Saturday and the best days were Thursday and Friday. There were three weddings going on over the weekend so the other pool was closed, they took up a third of the main pool with tables so Saturday was way over crowded with no seats available except on the ground. The hotel is beautiful and the food and service are top notch. If you like the loud party scene go on a weekend otherwise, mid-week is much more comfortable and relaxing.

Four (super casual) stars

Some people will find the canvas walls and hard floors off-putting (see, super casual) but for the rest of us this place gives just what's wanted in the desert: cool relaxation. Cool, as in its many shady retreats from the glorious sun you've come to enjoy, and cool, as in a retreat from all the mundane and uptight life garbage you've come to get away from. This place is almost too hip for its own good, but hey, it's just a vacation, you deserve a little bit of hip, right? All ages and types seemed comfortable at the Ace, and that's always a good thing in my book, as I am an odd type, myself. Comfort and fun are the rules here. The Ace has a fabulous bar (try a Desert Facial); the food at its Kings Highway restaurant is more expensive than the Heaps O'Food-type chains on the same strip, but not by much, and it is heaps better. All I ate there was excellent-- the fish tacos are popular for a reason, and the French toast is a marvel--and all was generously portioned for sharing or saving (the chilaquiles taste even better as leftovers!) And there are genuinely fun things to do here without leaving the hotel: try the awesome Sissy Bingo or a film screening. Noisy with parties on the weekend, if you got an outward-facing room you'd probably be okay. Great for families-- 2 pools, one quieter-- and folks with dogs. Not good for folks trying to avoid human (or canine) contact. Loved it; will be back.

Money-saving tip: Not Applicable

This is a resort and no outside food or drink is allowed (beware the killer mini bar!!) but most people seemed to flout the rule. Certainly if you're discreet it's not an issue.

No smoking room should not be near a smoking room

I don't smoke, or allow it near me, however, I was booked to a room that was above a smoking room and throughout the night and the morning, my wife and I were hit with a heavy barrage of nasty cigarette smoke that went right into our room. The room below us had a patio, with fireplace, and the guests chain smoked the entire time. The weather was warm so I wanted to open up the French doors and enjoy the weather but doing so meant suffering second-hand smoke rising from the room below.

A Perfect Vacation

It was my first time visiting Palm Springs, and the Ace was the perfect place to stay. There's an amazing restaurant (best hamburger ever!) at the hotel and the bar hosted a couple of fun parties while we were there. The hot tub and pool were huge and even though it was pretty chilly out (30's-50's) we spent a good amount of time in both, every night of our stay. The Ace has a great vibe- we ventured out quite a bit, but there was really no need to have to elave the hotel at all. :)

not for kids (unless they're drunk hipsters)

The worst of my life. called them to book a room for a nice getaway for mother's day. myself, wife, and daughters (5 & 7). drove hours to get there to find on arrival the quieter, more kid-friendly pool was closed for weekend. they'd neglected to mention this when i told them i was bringing my daughters to swim and relax for the weekend. considered leaving but they knocked some of the cost off if we would try it the one night. it was after 10 pm and kids were grumpy, so we decided to try it. then: no parking. went back to leave (and should have), used some colorful language at this point but a nice security guard pointed me to a 10 minute spot that he would let us have all night. parked and went to our room - but couldn't find it. it was right around here that i became clark griswold at the end of national lampoon's vacation. in their uber-cool wisdom, not only had they neglected to put a number on our suite, but they had neglected to tell us that our suite had no number on it. now i'm no genius, but i'm not sure that even if i was i would have been able to figure that out. had to have my wife and kids wait outside even longer while i asked for help finding what should have been obvious. bed was comfortable, pool at 9:30 was empty yet there were no seats...? had to evict some towels. then the dj set up. right next to us. and played jay-z. to my daughters. i asked him to reconsider his choice in music, maybe something a little less... explicit. he told me to go away and that he doesn't go to my work to tell me what to do. i showed restraint though used some fairly explicit language myself. manager told him to reconsider his choice in music. shortly after this my wife got back from her massage to discover me and our daughters completely surrounded by smoking, dancing, greasy hipsters waist-deep in the pool with their ashes and our kids. this is when we left. it would have been thirty minutes earlier had i booked a 60 minute massage for my wife instead of the 90. they gave us a *very* hard time about it, but we were not willing to pay for the night we stayed and they finally acquiesced. we payed for food, drinks and the massage. it was not worth it. i wanted to have a nice mother's day getaway and the ace foiled us at every step. maybe if the other pool had been open it would have been different, but i don't think we'll ever know.
